Phone/PDA holders in stiff cars

Can anyone advise on a good way of mounting a phone so that I can see it (it has GPS on it). I had one of those windscreen suction mount things off Ebay and it held the windscreen and phone just fine, but the thing wobbled and vibrated so much it was impossible to look at. Also, I don't want to damage the dashboard.

PS. I also tried a dashmount adapter and genuine Nokia holder and that combo was shit too
