How did you manage to get 265bhp out of your B31?reggid wrote:Was 'only' 226bhp!
Dbilas:looks nice but doesn't do much, it is still only an off the shelf part. Is better to have a system that is designed to work with everything else

To be fair though, tuning for racing is easier than for a road car as race engines don't need any power at all below around 4000rpm. Tuning an engine for road use while keeping it tractable and generally useable is more tricky. Look at F1 for example. 1500bhp from 1500cc's, or 1000bhp/litre. On a road car anything above 150bhp or so/litre is an achievement.e21Jason wrote:Bmw got 320hp out of the group 2 e21 323i
I would be suprised if the e21 323i was running a 2.3L M20 or any M20 for that mattere21Jason wrote:Bmw got 320hp out of the group 2 e21 323i, kolb motorsport in Germany do a 300bhp m20. Tuning engines has not changed since the 1920's when Sir Henry Ricardo wrote the book.
It's just a big HP m20 is going to cost as you would have tyo pay some one like Owen to do the r&D dyno time and make the parts

The E21 did run a 6pot M20 2.3. Initially it was known as the M60 engine then was rebranded the M20.reggid wrote:I would be suprised if the e21 323i was running a 2.3L M20 or any M20 for that mattere21Jason wrote:Bmw got 320hp out of the group 2 e21 323i, kolb motorsport in Germany do a 300bhp m20. According to their website they do a race 272hp 3.2L M20.
Do you have any specs on this 320hp 2.3L M20?hennabm wrote:The E21 did run a 6pot M20 2.3. 290bhp from a 2.3L 12V M20 is an aweful lot, would need to be spinning 9000rpm+ to make those numberse21Jason wrote:Just checked my old magazine articles and I was a bit they only got 290bhp out of the 2.3 m20 in 1982, Hartge built engine based on the work done for the 323i rally cars which won there class in the European rally championship.
The engines were built for Alessandro Fracastoro for his European Mountain Race group 5 e21 which took one first place and one second that season
Off course m20 race engines lasted one event, ran race full and were very peaky back in 82
