just had a right giggle with gti on the way home.

i was doing about 50 when this new shape golf starts to pull out from a side rd ,hes edging out expecting me to stop for him.

well as i blast past the front of his motor i notice his tony and guy haircut an paris hilton wannabe girly sitting beside him.

as we come down the rd theres width barriers i go through the barriers and hes up my bottle straight after the barriers im turning left and the rd bends round to the right, time to go me thinks.

i floor the old touring and take off to about 70 the t an g ponce
is trying to keep up but its see ya he only catches up when im
braking for a car in front.

im laughing my nuts off at him well he turns left and gives me the willy wonka hand out of his window the mug.

if you cant win dont play :D winkeye

Conversly - I recently was side by side with a SEAT turbo diesel - stayed with me up until 80mph when I levelled off. I mean, a 325i and a diesel! Still, my engine sounded a lot better and doesn't look like a Euroblob... :P

Mine's quick enough for me ! My mate and I (who has a golf Mk4 1.8 GTi Turbo) are really closely matched when we go out for drives along the Welsh roads! He has me under braking, but then I get the traction out of the corners ; ) and we're pretty much even on the straights

It may not be the fastest, but is up there in one of the best sounding. I heard a 335i and it sounded almost electronic.

I had an audi TT in a straight line sprint to 120ish the other week that was quite amusing and the good old Touring convincingly went about it, you cant beet a 325i touring for shocking people in there 'sports'cars. Ive shocked plenty of people in there much more expensive cars. i disagree and think 325i's are quick even by modern standards its mostly to do with the lack of weight of the e30. my old tech1 was good for 60 in 6.3 and 140 if you felt brave, it was used a lot for straight line stuff and got such a reputation around here for blitzing more exotic cars no one bothered it in the end :D

It had some tuning done by some tuning house in the 90's i cant remember were it was but it was dynoed at 193bhp and i had it on timing gear a few times. I guess the mods were substantial to get to that figure but i never found out what it had other than a unichip and a scorpion backbox. it helped alot that you could easily hit 60 in 2nd which the touring doesnt

A friend of mine has an E39 530d Touring 5 speed. My almost stock 325i is quicker off the line and upto around 120 mph when he pisses past me - as I back off due to my tyres getting close to the wear bars, and my front bumper not being attached properly...

Its all down to power/weight, and a 325i still stacks up well compared to modern standards.

actually as barry says, its there not exactly slow, they may not be as quick as things like evos and porkas, but there still in the top 50% of stuff on the road, your looking at quite substantial machinery worth easily 5 times what the e30 is worth if you want to leave one standing.

you only have to check the solid facts, 7 seconds to 60 depending on diff, now if you want somthing that will put 1 second on it to 60 your talking about over 300hp now with the way modern cars are going. and i would put money on it that theres 5 cars slower than 7 secs on the road for every less than 7 second car.

no the e30 isnt a rocket, but it isn't really slow either.

sorry to burst the bubble but a new GTi will leave almost any 325 for dead iof driven properly.

Trust me i am a die hard E30 fan and have had a few 325's, my current one is by far quickest..but i also work at the Bahrain International Circuit as a part time instructor and i was instructing for the day we locally launched the new GTi. I did over 500km around the clubman circuit here at the BIC in the same GTi and it never missed a beat, only got a overheat alarm after on VERY spirited session of three laps, and then only off ignition and back on and it cleared. my conclusion from this day is the new golf GTi would leave any of my BMW's for dead in a straight line and round a track, given equal drivers.

the question you should ask is if equal money was spent on new GTi and on an E30 then which would be better, but then you are pitting a modified E30 against a standard golf.

the T&G fellow either stuck a body kit on a 1.4 or has no clue about how to drive because be all rights he should have blown you away

Mr ratch

the 318is does not factor into this discussion as its a well known fact that they are so fast the image you see in your mirror is only the light attempting to catch up with the mighty IS which is already in Lithuania.

when i said new golf what i meant was it was a mk4/mk5? i dont even know what year it was.
i dont take much interest in new motors

i was pulling away from him so fast it .was hard to tell :)

seriously though, he called me a wonka because he could'nt/would'nt drive over a certain speed.

so why am i a wonker?

i beleive it was because he got shown up with paris beside him.
im just glad i was in an old touring he wont forget it in a hurry. winkeye
