Is this "the best one" that was somewhere between Italy and Austria, or the other best one that's in Romania?

If you do go, look for a Phil Collins and Wham tape that we launched out of the sunroof on the way down

Seriously, it's worth a trip in the summer 8) 8)

A couple of other must-do roads are on the way to the Stelvio, found in Switzerland close to the Italian border.

KlausenPass, SustenPass, GrimselPass and FurkaPass. The last three form a triangle with some of the best scenery I've ever seen.

Stelvio disappointed me.
Many of the bends are so tight you have to slow right down to take them.....not my idea of a good road to be honest.

Saying that, I wouldn't bother. Long way to go if you break down and can't speak Romanian (I'd cheat and phone my mate in that situation :D ) and need to find a BMW dealer

They all look good but why would you want to leave the country when you have Scotland (I'm sure there are some great roads in England and Wales as well)

Go to Applecross on Google world and look at this one!!

Image

There are loads of videos of people driving this road on You Tube, this is just one. It has been speeded up to normal driving speed!! Go to 3:20.

This is a route I have come up with...

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&sourc ... F8&t=h&z=6

Destination could include "The N ring", Stelvio (top gears best driving rd), San Bernardino Pass, and St. Moritz another swiss mountain with an brilliant driving rd (aparently)

Over the space of 4-5 days we could quite easily make at least 3 of these locations... (allowing for a couple of turd breakdowns of course :D

By my estimations based on my car (e30 2.8 ) and 2 people per car...

-The tunnel, £42 per car on a 5 day return

-Probably 8 tanks of petrol, 10 when driven enthusiastically :D

-4 nights in "average" hotels, ie, holiday inns style places or b&bs 4x £65

-Food and beer over the 4 days... (100-150 maybe per person)

So my cars total for 2 people comes to £852... So pessimistically say 500 per person and u can't go wrong...

100 quid a day aint too bad for a driving holiday when u think bout it

Im sure i've forgotten something

PS. r there any long bank holiday weekends in the summer??? combine the with a couple of days annual leave and ur sorted

you're not mixing nuremburg up with nurburg are you?

we have been discussing this sort of thing here:
http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=160870
i'll be heading down to italy via a few tasty alpine passes then back up via the nurburgring later this year

Or just get a boat to Jersey! Rally central mate!

Rippin' Round St. Ouens

(2:25, handbrake corner! I'm standing somewhere there!)

St. Catherines (Main road about 1min in), part of it is a bit of the best road in jersey.

Waterworks Valley Stage! :P (The subaru in this makes it seem soo bumpy, but its not!)

TVR Rally car! (Best perspective of what its like to drive fast in our little lanes!)

And this makes our hillclimb look easy :P

You'll have to be good drivers though to think you can cope over here with our 40mph speed limits! :chuckle:

Nay, it's not the 40mph speed limits, its all the tail backs. It seams to be rush hour traffic all the time in Jersey. Lovely place tho. Will go back again!

Urm, at rush hour?

If your in town or near, then yes, it can get quite busy. Go out to the roads and lanes of the country then its not bad until you get stuck behind a granny or hire car.

Anyway, I was kinda taking the piss about driving roads. They're dangerous, quick and narrow as lanes everywhere (if you dont follow the main roads) and these are still 40mph limits (bar the odd 15mph one). A few great main roads, but not driving roads.

I really want to be let loose in wales and scotland for driving. Some parts there look great. Europe one day!

I went down the Davos to Stelvio pass last year and was a real let down. The road was full of traffic and really nothing amazing apart from the view down. I found the road just after a lot more exciting with all it's twists.

I've never driven to Applecross, but looking at the video the scenery is mega. :D
TBH, I've been put-off single track roads. I once drove from Lochailort to Kilchoan (A861/B8007). I swear I had to pull into (or reverse back to...) every bloody passing place for 30-odd miles. By the time we got to Kilchoan, the ferry wasn't running and we had to go all the way back inland again! To say I was p155ed off is an understatement. .....And by the time we got to Oban for the ferry from there, we'd not only missed our (pre-booked & paid for) B&B in Tobermory but run out of time to go to Mull at all.
So now I avoid single-tracks.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......
