Hi i have been working my way through this
http://www.rickk.net/i/drive/bmw-e30-32 ... formation/
I'm having some up and down idling when I first start her cold
on the connector that plugs in to the ICV it's saying i should have a battery voltage to ground. and then from the middle connector to both sides i should have 10 volts. Im getting 13 one side and 3 volts the other. Is the guide wrong for my ECU or do i have to work my way through the loom?
Its a 87 C2 2.7
Testing the ICV????

Just compared it to my other car readings are correct
I had a similar problem with my 318is on Sunday...the idle was too high (1500rpm), then too low (500rpm), then the engine started revving and dropping over and over again.
I took off the ICV (one bolt & two hoses), cleaned out the inside with some engine cleaner spray & cotton buds, refitted it and the idle is now stable at the usual 850rpm. It took about 30 mins...the tricky bit was reattaching the bottom hose to the underside of the inlet manifold. Cost...£3.50 for the cleaner.

Switch your DVOMeter to ohms.
the resistance between the two outer terminals on the ICV itself should be 40 ohms.
the resistance between each outer terminal and the center terminal should be around 20 ohms.
On the latter test, anything less than 15 Ohms means that the ICV is not good.
