been having some fun today with a few mates who have porsches

so for all these people muttering about doing the m30 swap this should be interesting for you!

fraction quicker than a 968 club sport (3litre 240bhp 6sp)
level pegging through the gears but losing out top end with a 1990 911 (3.6 250bhp)
and, best of all, identical from 60-120 with a 2 month old boxster S which i think is 260bhp? anyway drivers windows absolutely level to that speed beyond which he started edging forward

esp good on long uphill dual carrigeway at 100+, lots of torque and little weight

i know there are plenty faster cars! but feels nice to be in a 1k bmw with the engine screaming away and not losing an inch to the 40k porsche right next to you!

but this new one it would not beat

have to say boxsters might be :gay: but they sound utterly wonderful

A 968cs isnt particularly quick though, and its a fair bit heavier than an e30
It's party trick is in the corners & it's generally considered one of the best handling cars ever
I've been round the ring a couple of times in one driven properly, never felt as many G's in any other car I've been in, felt like my neck was being pulled off in a few places, and was convinced we were going to crash at one point (and I know the ring pretty well)

I fully intend to get one some day (after I've had an e30 m3, as a 968 is a step above that in speed and grip)
Cheers,
Robin

speed and grip yes, but the e30 m3 is sposed to be its equal in actual handling

Yes and the e30 m3 is supposed to have slightly better steering feel
Both quite similar at the end of the day, figure if I got an m3 then later down the line get a bit bored of it then the 968cs would be the next car of choice as it'll be newer/less prone to tinworm and that little bit quicker

And then beyond that if I get old and boring an m5

Robin

Your motor sounds awesome, but tbh its not all about the speed, as you say the sound alone is worth it.... they are just so precise... try keeping up with a 2.7 on the twisty stuff!! 8O

Don`t you reckon they rev alot freeer, just blip the throttle and nothing holding it back .Do you think its the flywheels they use ?

The porsche baiting seems like a laugh, just wound my turbo up a little now, was running 0.2bar boost, now a few more  Just hope I can find something to judge how fast it really is.

My main prob is confidence, I think I'm giving it all, but not as I'm still a second of my best 0-60, my N/A 0-60, just need a bit more faith and bigger balls too :D

Are you still on the 3.91 dif ?

Might be best with some thing longer geared ?

Do you lose torque with a lightened flywheel ?

actually you gain power and torque as the flywheel doesn't soak up as much, however you lose rotating inertia (resistance to velocity change) which means the engine has to work harder when load is applied to it.

Andy,

I'm still on my 3.73 open, so far no grip issues as I'm not planting it in 1st or 2nd, have tire width issues at the back.

Am thinking a 3.64 lsd would be just the job :D or may 3.15 when I get a few more ponies

Yeah, it depends on what level of boost/power you settle at ?

Is yours spooling up nice and early in the rev range like Ants ?

I think .5bar (sorry my boost gauge is only in bar  ) will be plenty quick enough.

I get spooling a 2k and full boost by 2.5 ish. Pickups good too and throttle response is awesome with no afm anymore. Still getting used to all the noises and whistles it all makes, it's a fair bit louder now too, engine roars through the revs  .

Exhaust is quieter, well it will be when I fix the holes, but a large drop on actual exhaust noise.

Hopefully I'll make it too lakeside, got a few bits to finish yet :(
