Found a touring that I'm interested in however apparently its been 'registered scrap' what ever that means. On the dvla website it says date of liability as feb 2010...

Really sounds as though its in fairly good condition and since mine front end got wrecked i thought of this. its cheap.

Just wandered whether it was possible to un-scrap a car?

Wouldn't have thought so, if it's been deemed unsafe for the road you can't get the shell. Also, if it's scrappage scheme you can't get the shell.

Apparently 'my mate just registered it as scrap and let it in my yard and he bought a new one. It failed mot'.

sounds to me as though he has just SORN'd it.

I read about a garage buying a car out of the scrappage scheme (an old Morris Traveller) and auctioning it off for charity.. I think you can buy them out of the scrappage scheme if you pay the £2K?

i thought once it was in the scheme you cant touch it
because that would defeat the idea if they go back on the roads?
let us know

Take the car. Ask questions later. More difficult to unscrap when it's been put through the crusher.

The IVA test is a nightmare, I have the manual here for my kit car. When I read it a couple of months ago I remember thinking an E30 would never pass it easily! :?

Off the top of my head no (in work and dont have the IVA manual with me).

If it was going in for a full IVA though it would have to pass emission standards of a new car. If it was pre-cat this alone could cost you a bit. The test itself is in the order of £600+

Best bet would be to buy a turd off ebay for £100, do a scuttle-ectomy on the car you want so it takes the identity of the turd, then cut up the ebay car yourself :)

nahh at most it would be a BIVA, but im sure it should just be a vic check in order to issue a new v5 and possibly new registration if the one on it has expired, more just to prevent ringing.

what it actually dose though is make it far more likely honest people will ring a car just to avoid the ball ache as its easyer to ring a car than pass these stupid fucking tests with a legitimate one.

as you can tell iv done a lot of work in this area to be so fed up with the dvla.
