For a full re-trim, change of colour, leather, on a cabby. I know it depends on how much you love your car, what condition its in etc, but where do you draw the line with cost?

You could spend thousands on a re-trim if you wanted to, piping, colour stitching etc.
For a full interior re-trim, seats/doorcards/centre consoles, i'd be looking at around £1500 at least.

Is it my imagination or is it cheaper the further north you go? I've had a couple of quotes down here and they seem pretty wild. No fancy bits like piping, just a standard like for like just a different colour.

Over the years i've read a lot of posts from people asking about re-trims, where, how much etc, but you never seemto get posts saying "i've just had it done and it cost this much at this place." Could it be that people are put off by the prices they've been quoted or do they have it done and keep the price a secret so as not to be told "you've been ripped off!" The same seems to go for soft tops.

Was a good price IMO

Trying to remember who it was. It was the cream/white ish interior in a cab if I'm not mistaken??ImysE30 wrote:There was a thread on here where someone got a very good re-trim done for £800, company in Nottingham called Dynamic Interiors i think.

Was very nice either way though!
Personally, I'd have £1500 prepared for a good retrim. (More around £1k if only the seats are to be done, front and rear).
For everything (seats, doorcards, and other parts), about £2500 would be a nice budget.
Really depends on how far you want to go, materials used, quality and making sure everything looks mint!

Uni is killing the project.

As a guide I know of a chap in West Yorkshire, his work is excellent but he does take the pee pee with time taken to complete the job...so £450 would get you a full retrim in leatherette will look same as your originals in term of stitching and fit and the finish is like what you would expect in an x5, ...£1000 for genuine leather then up to and over £1500 if you start to go into the high grade leather and want custom work done
Most trimmers are a bit hit and miss. Dynamic Interiors done my mates car and it was excellent. I commisioned them to retrim some Vader interior for me and it was crap with bubbles everywhere. His excuse was that they sat there for months waiting for me to pick them up and that was the reason. Lets just say i gave him 2 options and he chose to give me my money back. I also had a guy trim my interior in London and i was so unhappy it never went in my car and i sold them, but then his price was cheap. I guess at the end of the day it comes down to how deep your pockets are. All my trimming is done by Gibson trimming in Southampton. Vinney is not cheap i can assure you, but the quality of work is 2nd to none. He's the kind of chap who will unstich something because 1 stich doesnt line up, where as others would let it slide. He trimmed the vaders i originally had in the Rieger and they were in there for 3 years and then in my Msport cab after and they still looked new. He also trimmed the current Rieger interior and whilst im not too keen on the amount of piping, the level of work is exceptional and the leather is Ferrari butter scothch. Ok i paid more for it than most E30's cost but you get what you pay for is what i'm trying to say.ImysE30 wrote:There was a thread on here where someone got a very good re-trim done for £800, company in Nottingham called Dynamic Interiors i think.

I'm usually a preacher of the 'you get what you pay for' theory, but as you say bootyman, dynamic did an excellent job and then a crap job, and looking at the standard of your cars I would guess you paid top money even for the crap job. The quotes I've had are also more than the cost of the large majority of e30's including my own and i suppose the real battle is finding a happy medium. I don't think I can justify spending the quoted amounts on a re-trim that is possibly worth less than the car itself, so my quest continues for evidence of a good job for reasonable cost. I might speak to Dynamic and see what they can come up with.

Give this guy a call. His name is Vinnyand his number is 07956437185. Tell him Ben gave you the number and said he's sort you out. Honestly he's the best trimmer i've ever used. I've used others and like i said i've sold the seats without putting them in my car and gone back to him. I'm due there with my car to have the piping done soon so maybe i could take you to him if you like what he has to say.jacko wrote:I'm usually a preacher of the 'you get what you pay for' theory, but as you say bootyman, dynamic did an excellent job and then a crap job, and looking at the standard of your cars I would guess you paid top money even for the crap job. Not sure mate. Bell him and ask him. I think he use to charge one hundred and something depending on colour and amount of work needed. Check out the piping o my steering wheel. Not to everones taste but you get the idea of the mans talentLow_E30 wrote:Bootyman, by your estimation how much would your man charge to retrim a steering wheel?....
I kinow wheels are notoriously difficult to pull off, due to the sheer amount of stitches required.

There is a place in Bradford that have been going for donkeys years, I used them as a result of positive feedback. I cant recommend them enough. They put a new back window in my wife's Boxster. Did it in record time and was 50 quid cheaper than nearest quote.

i think some people may keep schtum, coz they may think they got a good deal and if the person they used becomes popular the prices might go up....jacko wrote:Over the years i've read a lot of posts from people asking about re-trims, where, how much etc, but you never seemto get posts saying "i've just had it done and it cost this much at this place." personally im really trying to hunt down a good upholsterer and if i get a good price and the workmanship is of a standard i will post it on tyhe zone to help coz i know how hard it can be to do your project on a budget.
my two pence worth anyway
Luke at Plush Automotive quoted me best part of £2250 plus VAT for a retrim of door cards and seats in red Nappa leather. Luke's work is well known and second to none, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for

My retrim is costing in around the figure of £3000.
£2000 for the upholsterer and I had to source the fabric ... that's right, fabric not leather.
OEM heated seat set up
New cushions, bolsters and what have you.
