ive posted this on 2 other bmw forums, sorry if youve already read it)

Im looking into buying one but need some advice.some reviews i have read say that they can have dangerous handling in the wet and im wondering if this is quite accurate or just something thats been blown out of proportion.
i spose any rwd car is going to be a bit twitchy in the rain, but exactly how bad/good are they?my car will be fitted with 15 inch alloys anyway, and using the best tyres i can afford.any advice?

I have an auto with standard open diff, with dunlop sp9000 tyres, and the car will still be tricky in the wet, i just take it easy, you could just get a sport, (standard lsd) making the car more predictable and controllable in handling in limited traction sitautions(but don't rely on it)

Ive owned 3 E30s now, a 316i on clapped out suspension, a 318is and my current custom 325i. I personally dont think theyre dangerous cars in the wet, just dont take the P!$$ (respect rwd in the rain dont fear it) and know what your doing (dont brake into a corner hard or lift off mid corner; e.g dont upset the balance). Altho once you have lost it and the cars sliding out then id say they need pratice to grab control of again!

I've driven about 150,000 miles in 3 different E30's(coupe,saloon,Tourer) and only once have I lost the backend, and that was on sheet ice.
As above, treat it with respect, you'll never have a problem.

in the wet they can be a handfull if you use all the power they have [also good fun] but drive it according to the conditions of the road and you will be fine [ but who wants to do that ] as they are great fun in the wet with a heavy foot,,, :drive:
