Just leave it on for MOT, and remove after, no problems then!Karan wrote:will my tourer pass MOT if i have cut the belt to disable powersteering??

if u have a car with p/s and u take the belt off like u have, the steering is heavier than if u removed the lot and put a manual rack in mate?
Not sure on the MOT front mate tho, might be like Daz said

what's happened with MOT's these days.
I remember it used to be Ԛ£9.99 for an MOT in Boro, with a free re-test. The burglars want Ԛ£40 notes for an MOT these days!

fookin hell! im glad i dont live up north
there are garages here that do it for Ԛ£14.99 or theres
a few that do it for Ԛ£20 with a free retest within 14 days!
but down south we pay a lot more for cars in general than up north so thats the downside!

I thought you had 7 days to resolve any failure points on the car at all MOT stations. Otherwise they could decide to charge another whole test fee for even minor problems.

Garage I get my MOT's done at has charged me Ԛ£25 for the last 4 years. When I went back for the re-test this morning, it was 4 weeks since the failure and they didn't charge me for the re-test!E30BeemerLad wrote:what's happened with MOT's these days.

Garages only have to give a free retest if the car does not leave the premisies iirc!

It differs from place to place, my usual garage gives me 14 days for a free re-test.Quaser wrote:Garages only have to give a free retest if the car does not leave the premisies iirc!

Simon - thats the official line from what i understood it from the leaflets that are dotted around the place (you have to do something when your waiting in the queue!)
But you are right in that MOT testers can vary it if they want.
Theres a place near me that doesnt charge if it fails (h reg fiesta included!!!) and then allows 28 days for you to fix it before a full test is required again!

I think it will be changing though soon, once this new computerised system is up and running properly, they're having a lot of problems at the moment, my MOT guy is dreading it!
