well, as i was defrosting the 316 this morning, i de-iced the windsreen n flipped the switch to wipe, but only the drivers arm moved, then i did it again n only the passenger one moved, then about 5 mins later, with a filthy windscreen they both stopped moving, on the bypass! :x i get to work, have a poke around and i find that both the nuts that secure each arm to the car have come loose, so the motor was spinning but the wipers weren't connected, just sat being lazy n cold, bloody thing, i looked like ace venturer with my head out the window so i can see! and i only have little ears that get cold really easy :( , anyway, rant over, :D

i had an incident with mine today

i started the car to warm it up whilst i refixed my rear numberplate back on, when i started it i turned the wipers on but they didnt move and left them on. anyway 20 mins later i start smelling something funny, i go into my car and its full of smoke (comming out of airvents) i shit myself thinking the car was going to burn down lol. anyway opened the engine bay and noticed smoke comming from the grill under winscreen on passanger side. It was the windscreen motor burning out

they still work though but my car smells like its been on fire inside and everytime i go in it and get back out i smell like an arsonist

ive drenched my interior with oder eliminator but it wont go away it bloody stinks

that was a luck one Alex. I guess in future you'll remember to make sure the wipers are not stuck to the windscreen before switching them on after it's been freezing. :D

i thought they would move the snow but somehow i managed to forget about them

i think what i may have done is pressed the stalk down so it does it once, and obviosly it couldnt then 20 mins later when i figured out what was wrong i manually pulled the wipers up so they would get the snow off and they stopped when they went back down

i noticed the other day that my brothers hilux has a neat little arm thingies on the wipers that you can fold down. they hold the wiper 1/4" off the screen to prevent this problem :D when you use the wipers, they pop back automatically too

better still, BMW left a nice little heating element on th screen on the e32 which will heat the rubber of the wipers so they are nice and effective for you :)

That would be nice. Mine blows cold air onto my hands through the middle vents!

to be fair, my 500000kg boat anchor takes about 3 miles before any warm air comes through in these conditions, just in time to arrive at work.

and i hate gloves.
