Hi. Anyone know of a way I can jack up the suspension on my E30. Need it raised up for extra clearance over the exhaust etc on a rally !

No one knows of a drop mount kit or anything similar ?

Spring assisters will help raise it a bit but will also stiffen too

How would you need it higher than standard?!? they are like tractors on standard height although they are quite soft and wooly.

Must be pretty deep tram-lines your going down!

Thats pretty much it ! Its a 24hr indurance trial on farmers tracks and green lanes. Mostly up very steep hills. You have to be going very fast to get up most of them and underbody clearance is essential. I plate over the exhaust etc but wanted to get a bit more height if possible ? I tried spring assisters last time but they fell out during the rally ! Ill probably use them again but cable tie then in or something ?

Cheers !

Why not go to Faulkner and get custom springs made? I'm sure they're not massively expensive.

my road rally car on standard 318is springs is too low as the sump hangs quite low and even though the guard is less than a fingers width off it it only gives about 6 inches of ground clearance, which makes for a bumpy ride down the whites

can e34/e28 5 series springs be fitted i wonder?

how much have you got to spend?

i'm sure gaz would be able to custom make some coilovers with longer dampers and longer softer springs than usual.

at the rear you could probably get some spacers made up to sit under the standard rear springs and some custom made longer front springs
cheers,

harry

Yeh thats it. I am doing the MCC Trial. Dont really wanna spend much. I normally do it in a 205gti but thought id try rear wheel drive this time. If it performs well ill keep it for other events. Ill see what I can get. Cheers for the assistance.

Longer springs and longer dampers. You can get custom springs made pretty cheap from some places, had one of our customers recommend someone to me, but can't remember who for the life of me!

Rear dampers are easy - we can custom make telescopics upto 24" long. (£65+ VAT each btw)

Fronts will be tricky though, no idea where you'd get inserts with a longer piston rod...

Could you cut and extend the strut and put a spacer the same size under the damper? You wouldn't get any more travel as the rods would be the same length, but you would get mote clearance.

Actually couldn't you do that anyway, cut under the spring platform, extend the leg with some tube, weld it all back up and put a bung or spacer under the damper so it still sat tight to the top of the strut.
cheers,

harry

What if you extended the strut mounting studs & made a spacer to go between the top mount and the body? this could be done front and rear to jack it up. :)

I think thats exactly what I will do, having had a bit of a closer look last night. A bit like the drop mount kits you can buy for 4x4s. Basically just move the whole arangement further away from the body.

Thanks guys. Love the pics !
