Things were going so well. :x

All was going well to have my car ready this weekend, for its first outing at Gaydon. It might not of won any show and shine stuff and still be more pink than red, but it was going to be there.

My insurance cover note arrived today, so all that was left to do tomorrow morning was fit the manifold (hoping like mad it would fit) and exhaust, pray it started and get it MOTd and Taxed.

Earlier today, I put the radiator back in, connected it all up and then filled her up with water. I went out and got back home about an hour ago to find a little bit of water under the car. :?

Thinking Id probably spilled some when filling it up, I wasnt to worried but checked it out anyway, and Im bloody glad I did.
Its leaking water from the water pump, so its going to have to come off again to fit another new gasket and I cant get one till next week :(

So looks like I will have to wait for Gaydon 2006 becasue the car isnt going anywhere

Im just really annoyed that after the work I put in this week to get it ready for Gaydon, Ive been stopped by something so stupid.

cut up a cereal box and use some instant gasket

Edit: my local motor factors sells gasket paper, you've got a template with the old gasket or the pump itself

Edit Edit: pour in some Kalimex K-Seal www.kalimex.co.uk

It will get you to Gaydon & back and you can finish it properly next weekend

I did think about it, but Im really pi$$ed off with it so Ive shut my tools away now and Im not going to touch the car at all over the weekend, just incase I set to it with a sledge hammer for letting me down

Ive tried making a gasket from gasket paper before on my old Cav, but it never worked as good as the original gasket.

It is the first run for the car, so Im not sure I want to take any chances with it leaking any water, especially on a long run and doing any damage - I cant afford another S50 8O

It looks to be leaking from the paper gasket mate, but looking at it closer, it may actually be the pump face itself
And from what I remember to get to it, the oil filter housing needs to come off as well.

It wont be happening tomorrow, Ive had enough of the car this last week.

Yeah, I thought about getting the XR3i back again, but it would use more oil than fuel and the brake discs are so warped that the CD changer skips at anything over 65mph

And my other car failed its MOT on Wednesday, but I didnt bother about it because I was planning on being in the 330i.

So at the moment Im car-less :(

Yeah, it is a pisser, literally - all over the drive

I havent got any pics of the work I done over the last week, my parents have my digi camera. Atleast I will have a chance to paint all the bits that need painting now and get some pics of whats been done to the plenum and manifold.

I hope so. I guess its my punishment for rushing it at the last minute, still it will be worth it. 8)

Update...

I broke my inlet plenum

Painted it on Monday night, left it till last night and went out to check on it. I must of knocked the bench and it fell off, landing on the concrete floor :(

Its in a few pieces and beyond repair :(
Luckily though, I was given a spare a few weeks back, so Im going to try and salvage the bit I made up to clear the servo and weld that into the spare plenum.

Im just going to wait for my 3rd bit of back luck :x

I havent got round to starting on the pump yet. The weather hasnt been that great and with the car on the drive (to big to fit in the garage) I need it not to be raining - its pi$$ing down here at the moment.

I actually took the car off the road in August 04 8O thanks to the clutch release bearing giving up - that was my weak excuse for the engine conversion
By the time I got eveything sorted, the engine made it into the car Nov 04, just in time for winter  so I didnt really work on it again untill Feb/March 05.

So, although its been off the road for a year, its actually been about 6-7months of evening and weekend work when the weather has allowed. I dont mind that its taken longer than I first hoped - I expected that really, but its these stupid little set backs that annoy me. :x

Ive still got the rocker cover to paint yet. I think I will be ultra careful with that one!
