He was lucky by the looks of it. After seeing that M3 that crashed at the ring I would never want to attempt a track day with out a cage. I think the harness saved his life though ( I think on the back on the seat it a 3 point harness strap. Also not wearing a crash helmet either! Do tracks normally set out a minimum saftey requirement for all the drivers or is it a case of pay your money and go regardless?

A helmet and covered arms and legs, windows no more than 1/4 open are the usual uk trackday regs.
I don't feel a rollcage is necessary for the occasional trackday, but it depends how you intend to drive and how seriously you take it all. Drive at 10/10ths all day trying to set the fastest times you can and a roll cage is a good idea, drive within your limits, have a bit of fun without going stupid and you'll be fine.

Let this be a lesson to those cheapskate ignorant idiots who bomb about in rusty turds with especialy those with structual grot who think it will go away by sticking on shiney ebay crap and bodge it over with fibreglass to claim its 'mint'
That was a solid road car, if it was a 'minter' as so many of you blindly claim thier own cars to be the out come would have been far more severe and fatal.
