Apparently the pin 7 trick can be bad, there is supposed to be a resistance there so lots of current doesn't flow to ground, if it goes wrong all the lights come on never to go out again...

maybe it might be wise to grab a resistor to put inbetween pin 7 and 1?!?! that would bring the current flowing down abit to cut the risk of killing the indicator counter or what ever causes it to count down to service.

by the way, ziggy, did you see my post on the thread about electric cooling fans. the 320i you sold me didnt have the viscous fan but it also didnt have an electric fan.. how did you set it up so it always stayed at a good temp, when i drove it it never once got past normal running temp!

Never had a prob without a resistor... a fuse might be a good idea though, unless you're absolutely certain you've got the right pins!

& I've no idea how the 320 managed it... guess a brand new radiator must have helped though. I've got an electric fan that I was gonna fit but I didn't get round to it... Only took the viscous off "temporarily" too!

I used a 2amp fuse and went from pin 7 to 1 then just turned on the ignition and waited
