Thought we should put the Baur issue to bed once and for all. Just have a nagging suspicion there are more Baur fanciers on here than people think :D

I think they are rubbish. I know a bloke who likes them because they are so much lighter than full convertibles, but my view is that the baur was an OK stopgap until the proper convertible was introduced - however much cheaper/lighter/stiffer they were, they look a bit 'designed in a pub, built in a shed' to me. My apologies to Baur owners, I just can't be made to like them.

Hardly the finest incarnation of the E30 but definately not the least valueable / desireable.
That would be the 4 door :)

I quite like them - a zoner who's name escapes me has a minty mint white facelift one which I always think looks really good.

My mishtake, read something another poster had put
under the Baur pictured in another thread, and came to the wrong conclusion.
Having said that, would an M3 version change your mind ? :)

I'm gonna offend a few people here but the touring & 4 doors look a lot more ulgy than a baur, a baur makes more sence than a proper cabby if your gonna drive it all year round

I have a Baur ( well an SA convertible actually but built on precisely the same principle - can opener to the roof and angle grinder to the rear ) and I love it

I accept that it's ugly with the roof down - it is - but it's a great drive and the varying hood/top openings make it more useable in varying weathers than a cab
As I get older I realize that you can't please everyone - pissing everybody off is however a piece of cake

Ive voted a positive yes for the Baur. Never owned an E30 example, but I did own this 2002 1973 example for 17years, and wish I hadn't sold it! I'm only put off an E30 Baur as they tend to be early cars, poverty spec, and sadly rusty. If a mint late facelift one came along, I'd be tempted. I also had a thing about yellow cars, still do, but not E30's!

I am a wrong'un as i quite like the look of the baur when in good condition + with the proper donk and loaded with options (2.5 m20 - non of this 4 pot drivel, bus like steering wheel/poverty spec etc)... Most baurs are scrap these days and are destined to become foil pie plates but every now and then a low mileage genuine mint example loaded with the correct options comes along. They can be dare i say it quite desirable  Oh and they have got to be black! As said i am a bit spesh when it comes to E30's, i always opt for the more rarer/quirky/unique models in excellent condition rather than the generic/standard models. I do like them to be a bit different winkeye
