if you wanna get the arse out all the time and practice controlling it and cant afford an lsd .. go for it .. if you regularly have to park .. or reverse .. or drive sensibly .. or drive int he wet all the time , go round corners without loosing the back end , not end up facing the wrong way infront of a police man ... then dont do it ... lol alright for a weekend toy or drift car .. daily road car ... dont do it

we'lll have all the usual suspects trotting out the old "you dont know what your talking about " lines shortly because they do use one and they think that everyone commenting negatively for some reason hasnt experienced one.

Diffs are diffs for a reason. It's something to do with the day-to-day driving of the car.....

I use mine on the road all the time and have no problems. it scrubs abit when parking or three point turning but on any normal road corner it's not noticeable.

It makes it easier to push the back out but unless you are a complete and utter cretin it won't catch you out.

After having driven LSD and Welded diff cars I would say that I wouldn't bother spending £350 on an LSD again.

pros and cons & it depends how the rest of your car is set up as to how it will feel & drive

don't think it's practical for everyday use, if you're a bit careless engine braking in the wet it could seriously ruin your day

You'll need more than a 'welder' to get a 316 sliding.......

Obviously the 350 quid spent on an LSD wasn't a good one!!!

Welded diffs ruin E30s in my opinion with trying to keep diff bolts or bushings on them.

Diffs are only welded for 3 reasons really...

For drifting on the track as they are more or less the same as a 2-way and that's alot more expensive and wears out eventually.

For people that want to go drift but are too tight to buy a proper LSD or consider rebuilding it when it wears out

For cars that are pure shitters that are only meant to serve there time as some cheap fun until it breaks, blows up or ends up in a ditch.

absolutely on the nail !

I have found that most owners of e30's with welded diffs have their petrol light on ? or is it part of the traction control system ?

Well a bit narrow minded but thats your perogative, the LSD worked fine but it wasn't worth an extra £350 over a welded piff.

Welded diffs aren't as good as an LSD obvious;ly but they do just as good a job on track days and for drifting for a whole load less money.

Also I have no problem using one on the road, it's a bit hairy when using my Centaur Ditch finders but then again with those tyres it's always gonna be a bit hairy, thats why I use my Eagle F1's

Like I have said before, some us are on a tight budget and £350 is lot of money.

I'm still only a student so not alot of money either, lol.

But a LSD was one of the first things I bought and friend had a 188 4.1 just after a rebuild by the looks of it and how tight it was so it was money well spent.

I can rebuild them myself anyway so picking up a worn one for a 100 quid isn't a problem if I want another one for a ratio change etc..

For track drifting, a welded diff is the only way to go and cars don't understeer or suffer the ill effects of a welded diff at all with good tyres on the front (R888s winkeye )

I just think having a welded diff on the road as it's cheap kinda defeats the purpose as you end up replacing half-shafts, rear beam and diff bushes far more regularly

if it is indeed a 316 you have? id remove the sewing machine motor you have under your bonnet before welding any diff. before all else you need the torque to spin the wheels first.
tuning? the best way of tuning a 316 for more power is to set the engine running and then get your hose pipe and jet water up the inlet pipe until it cuts out.

im tired of commenting on how welded diffs kill all children under the age of four and every cute kitten that ever excisted........ so i wont bother on this thread.
