m3 clutches

As the 'box is out again, this time i'm going to stick a new clutch in whilst it's all in bits, then hopefully its the last time i'll have to struggle with the damn thing for a long time!

just looking on ebay at the mo as i've got funds in my paypal,

sachs clutch - oe make i think, £155 + 8.50 postage, should do the job as i'm only running standard power

however, there's also a 'performance organic clutch kit' on there for £189.99 with free postage, although i don't know the make (high torque performance clutches) however, i find it hard to replace standard parts like for like if there's a higher performance version avaliable for not much more.

the car is no longer an everyday driver, and i dont live anywhere near a big city so my stop start driving is fairly limited and a slightly heavier clutch wouldnt be an issue.

comments / suggestions / other makes / places to buy from suggestions?

Given the "performance Organic kit" doesn't list the manufacturer Id guess that its typical eBay bullshittery!

Helix did make an uprated one. But as you are running standard power. Why would you want to fit a uprated one which potentially had a harder pedal pressure?

I fitted a Sachs one last year it's been fine. I got from C3 btw.

If there are no plans for loads more torque, or to abuse the clutch.. Fit a standard spec Sachs one.. Stay away from ebay shite

do a search on the company before you butthe organic one as there was a cmpany doing clutches on there and sending people the wrong ones and poor quality.

Why would you want to fit a uprated one which potentially had a harder pedal pressure?

because like many other items, if something needs replacing and there's a 'better' version avaliable for not a huge price difference then i'll generally go the upgrade route, things like fast road pads and poly bushes.

i'm not going to be putting huge miles on the m3 any more, don't do much town driving so a slightly firmer pedal is not a problem, i do however like to drive fast, on twisty country roads which requires lots of gearchanges and i intend to do a few more trackdays in it so a slightly more robust clutch wouldnt be a bad thing.

Standard Sachs one will cope with most things you will throw at unless you start to track the car heavily. So my advice would be to stick with Sachs.

Mine has been in for a couple of years, and it has coped with several Ring trips and about 6 trackdays.

Just fitted a sach a few weeks ago.....best clutch by far....the paddle clutches are far too hard and the 'organic' one isn't an option as you dont know what you're getting!

Then why not fit race brake pads. Better than road ones for resistance to heat. But with the slight downside that they are uselss in a road car. Unless there is a tangiable NEED for uprated parts then the standard part is fine.

Your car is not modified. And as everyone has said teh standard clutch is well up to the job of trackdays. And to consider spending a little more on a part that has no name and CLAIMS to be better is daft! Especially, as in due course you will need to change the inferior part for a decent quality one with all the associated costs that incurs.

Just had a new clutch in my Porsche 928....

get this....the price for a Porsche Kit....£1570.00

the price for a Sachs kit (which is the OEM kit....just not in a Porsche box but EXACTLY the same part) £400

insane....pyaing over 1000 quid for a pretty box with Porsche printed on it

As the above really , Standard clutch would be better suited imo
One thing i would add is try German and Swedish they normally have a choice of OEM or good quality replacements at competitive prices
