... This is why I get a chuckle out of people ditching the slush clutch radiator
fan in favor of electric because it doesn't steal Hp from the engine. It
still does, but now it is hidden in the alternator.
Now if you could put an AC compressor clutch on the fan and disable it when
you hit the accelerator, that might be worth it. I have seen projects that
do this with the AC so that in cars with small engines they can have decent
acceleration in the summer....

But the electric fan only comes on when needed, where as the viscous is turning permanent though.

Cool.
They got it right with the M3, no viscious viscous on there! (Unless you're in the US!)

A few people have fitted RS turbo electric fans to their cars, ask Ian332i for some info on wiring it up, he is the daddy when it comes to E30 electrics.

Don't fancy Ford parts on my BMW!
Although my mate does work at Ford, I smell discount.
Maybe I'll line up a few Vauxhall ones which are in stock at work, get a big phat one. Especially now I'm running an air-con rad, keeps it even cooooooler!

I heard there's some 5 series fan that fit. not sure which though. search for it on the zone though and you're bound to find it.

Small engines? Well the E36 onwards ECU has the ability to determine 'put your foot down status' and turn the AC off, and thats a 3.2l engine.hoshy wrote:... This is why I get a chuckle out of people ditching the slush clutch radiator

I think it's close between myself and Brianmoore for that titleSimon wrote:ask Ian332i for some info on wiring it up, he is the daddy when it comes to E30 electrics.
I do know a thing or two about electric fan wiring though
As for fan size, a 12" fan (RS turbo size) fit's nicely on the front of a standard 325i radiator. If you have an E36 radiator, or the deeper aircon radiator, you can squeeze a 14" fan in there.
Standard E30 Aircon (and E30 M3) cooling fan is 14". Before I fitted the E30 M3 fan (was easier to fit on the front of the aircon condenser rad), I was running a 14" Pacet cooling fan, and this worked a treat. It's now doing it's job on the front of Shinobi's car
Ian.
