Look at the state of the bottom of that sill! :nono: winkeye

Think you may get advisories on the bushes and pipes, But not on the valance rust!

sills need repainting, i think someone has painted them white once upon a time, they are all patchy near the bottoms showing white through and on one side a bit of black goes onto the body work slightly

the car has also been resprayed down one side as just above the sills there is a small bit of running all the way along you have to look hard to see it mind, but if it has been resprayed its bloody good 8O

if you look really hard you can see an old scratch from front to back where its been keyed (wing to rear lights) so i think its just been resprayed over that :)

Rub the pipes down with a bit of wire wool and then grease em up. Don't think the rear valance is a fail but I couldn't live with it and I'd be amazed if you can Alex!

arb bushes could get you scuppered and I would check all the others. :D

Sharp body work fail. Play in anti roll bar bush fail. Think that's a breather so should be ok. Stick some underseal on and cross your fingers. If the bush isn't too bad and isn't knocking you might get awY with that but they are pennys I would advise you just bang one on.

just digging through old MOT's too see if there was an advisory last time and there was non but there is an advisory from MOT issued nov 13th 2006 saying slight play in o/s rack and front to rear fuel pipes rusty

no advisorys in the 2008-2009 (current) MOT so it might have been dodgey since i bought it from a car dealer winkeye

whats slight play in O/S rack ???

i asked cotswold when i did my exhaust how much ARB bushes were because i remember them looking a little cracked, but look loads worse now than what i though they did :o:

£22 from cotswold, i would rather pay the extra and know there decent

i take it O/S rack is steering rack??? it does seem to have a little play in it to be honest

time for a z3 rack then winkeye

pipe is a breather pipe though, drop links don't normally fail just the roll bar mounting bushes. The jaws impersonation will fail though!

with bushes it's about whether theyre doing their job effectively, the drop link bushes can look pretty rough, but as long as there's no play and therye not likely to pop off the bar then theyre unlikely to fail.
cheers,

harry

I think you can just cover up sharp edges with gaffa tape for MoT purposes - it's purely a safety issue, whether it will mangle someone just by going near it, so some careful covering up is all that's required if you can't repair before MoT time.

Put gaffer tape over the rusty bit you cut out if you don't get it done in time. My mate's Transit had literally no arches left, so he gaffered them.

Fuel pipe corrosion is NOT a fail - only an advise. :D Covering with grease is not a bodge - it will slow any further corrosion of the pipe.

The arb bushes - the manual states that deteriation of a rubber bush resulting in excessive movement. If that is so then it will fail.

As for the corrosion on the lip. Is it within 30cm of any steering suspension brake or seat belt mounting? If not then will it affect the steering or braking of the vehicle.
As a sharp edge it must be likely to be caught by a pedestrian. I would suspect that if any pedestrian as injured by that then they would have other injuries to worry about as you would have knocked them down to begin with winkeye winkeye

Well ive just been to MOT garage to get it booked in, i mentioned the rear valance and he had a look, he told me not to worry about it as its low down at the back, its if its further up the car it would fail

Going in tomorrow @ 1.00pm (fingers crossed) :)

Usually use this one and the guy knows my mums partner well, but he doesnt do dogey MOT's allright if you have a bulb out he wont fail you but if there is anything wrong like ball joints, shocks, rot, etc he wont pass it :) he is quite strict

i'am also going to ask him to make a list of anything that looks slightly worn but not enough to be on advisory :)

Thats all familiar to me

This was what mine looked like a couple of weeks ago:

Image

It has been welded up (not as straight forward as I thought) and i'm going to paint it this evening.

Mine didn't even have that fuel breather pipe, it has rusted away completely.

I'll try to get a picture up of the finished job tomorrow. My rear jacking points were in a similar state until I fixed them too. They look like the rest of the sill now though. Lets hope the MOT man passes it on Friday.
