I like the sound mine makes with the windows down in second gear from about 2000 - 5500rpm

I also remember them being the absolute tits when they were new - maybe im just stuck in the 80's :o:

ABS has its own ECU as does the switchable auto gearbox.

for me it was always going to be a platform for a cosworth conversion so speed wasnt important for the donor but it so happened my touring came up at the right time and just happened to be a tech2 kitted well speced example. i was looking for a rwd estate for my everyday tools and i like the chunky look of a tech2 touring.
just as easy to work on as similar aged jap stuff but much cheaper and easier to get parts even from the main dealer and much more solid.

I'm not a die hard 80's fiend because i was still very young throughout most of it so didn’t really experience the life full 80s life style but its when your young that cars seem to make the biggest impression on you. I remember seeing E30 TV and mag adverts and thinking there were cool

why am i so mad on the e30???

well it dates back to the late 80's when a good mate of my dads had a delphin grey (i think it was) tech 1 sport & being taken out in it a few time's & the sound & the look just stayed with me & from then on i allway's promised myself a tech 1 till i got my tech2 sport a few years back & i've never looked back, that & the fact that they are so easy to work by yourself.

They may not be arround in the sort of numbers E30's are but their following is just as big if not bigger!

As for E30's....

I'm into most things 80's, especialy cars and the E30 is one of the cars that epitomise that era for me.

I'm also a fan of three box styling and the E30's understated looks are in my eyes spot on.

The fact that they are a hoot to drive and have level of build quality which we'll probably never see again in a mass produced car apeals to me.

Eloquently put Barry 8)

Although I think BMW build quality peaked with the E34 you're spot on :)

Yep - buy a Capri now or spend 8k in a couple of years time for one! they are gonna go the same way as Escorts..

I was surprised at how well made E30's feel!

Having the same feelings sweep. Tbh, much as i love driving mine. if it was,nt for the fact
that parts are so easy to get, coupled with the fact that they are fairly straightforward to service and work on, i may well have moved on a while ago. Though not necersarily progressed. Plus, there are hardly any modern cars that tick all my boxes. Well not under 50k
anyway. This place comes into the equation too.

For me it’s the looks, RWD, handling, reliability, readily available parts and suitability for track use (handling, low weight and that they can take a lot of stick)!

in a way this place & this thread has made me realise why i don't want to sell my sport as i was looking at letting it go a while back & after reading about the many resto's on the go & then reading through this thread that made me think that like gooner there is nothing out there that (to me anyway) can match a well turned out e30 for look's, handling, & sound out there for the same kind of price as the e30.

Oh yes i agree, an E34 is a step above the E30, i meant 80's BMW's in general.

There are a few cars on my list that I want to own at some point - however I can't see any of them being as easy to fix or cheap to run as my E30 - so until i get into a position where my cashflow is a bit better the E30 is staying !

I'm on my 4th now and keep coming back to them 8)

Pure 80's

Love the 3 box styling

Fun to drive, always puts a smile on my face

Sound great, when you plant the right foot

Easy to work on, even for spanner numptys like me

Parts freely available

The zone being around helps the experience as well

I myself have sometimes looked at other cars and thought wouldn’t be nice to drive that, something new. My friends have also asked me why I stick to my e30, when they have moved on to other cars.
And my answer to them is I ask, why they have moved on? and they always answer that they got bored of the car they had.
E30's have a character about them, the way they can keep you guessing, underestimate the car you driving and it will bite you, the lack of electronic babysitting makes you a better driver.
That is what I feel keeps them exciting, and not boring.
Yes they are now old, slow and well old, at the end of the day my car still puts a smile on my face but on the other hand also makes me so frustrated I could cry, but I will not trade her in for anything else :)
