That's the problem! I have cleaned the outside with my grit blaster but the inside it's manky as! + The passage ways are caked in clumpy oil and grit now!

If it has grit under the splash gaurd on the inside part of the cover SCRAP IT. You will now NEVER get that all out and when fitted, will do your engine no good whatsoever (an understatement).
Never media blast these is my motto but if you have to, mask the inside and both the breather and the oil filler well so that you minimse the risk of any ingress.
Believe me, I've done loads of these (See the diddlers more door and my own cars engine bay for examples but they don't come cheap) and the only way to clean them is by hand chemically.

Oven cleaner is very good. Spray on, leave, clean off.. repeat.

Next time take it to your local engine builder and they will put it through the parts cleaner for a few beer tokens, My local charged me £10 for a sump, inlet manifold and rocker cover with a few other alloy odds and sods, got all the dark crap out of the inlet that my de-greaser and pressure washer wouldn't.
