Good morning all, I am planning to take my E30 to the body shop in the next week or so to get a few bits sorted and one think I would like to do is get the upper and lower sections of my bumpers painted like they were on a 318is with the black still through the middle. I am pretty new to E30s so was wondering if you can help...

My bumpers are in good condition generally but a corner of the front and rear has a slight scuff. Seeing as my car will be refreshed like new after the work I don't want these scuffs on the black centres letting it down. My question is...are these centre strips a separate piece and can they still be bought new?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

James. :)

Yes, the black bump strips are still available new as far as i know - you might want to try the 'OEM Parts' section on here at the top of the page for discount BMW parts.

I have no experience with painting of any kind let alone plastic bumpers so I don't know how effective it would be to paint the bumpers. You might want to consider sourcing a good set of colour coded used ones and fit new bump strips to them?

to add to the above, have a word with whoever is doing the work.

it's usually a lot quicker, and easier to prep and paint a set of bumpers that were colourcoded from new.

bare plastic is often textured which takes a lot of prep to smooth, and they've often been coated in various silicone gels and lotions over the years which can be a nightmare to get rid of.
cheers,

And cost a fortune. I got an OE set from Motormec and it was £120'ish. Needless to say, some cretin in a Mazda 323 scuffed one of the front ones within minutes of me fitting them! :x

They do look good though when new.
