I was thinking of buying an e30 estate and was wondering what mpg you get on a run and round town.I want to know on all engine sizes as i'm fed up of driving a smiley transit and fancy a change :? :o:

bmw don't do an estate but they did build a tourer :)

depends what size engine for mpg 1.8 is fairly good around 24-30 mpg

but the 2.5 is much more fun with around 15-25 mpg :)

If you're going to be pedantic, try and be correct too.

I drive my 316 touring daily does mid 30's mpg on average its a very cheap car to run about in but im not suited to it so up for sale .... shameless plug winkeye

The 320 and 325 are same as saloons more performance but also a lot more juicey around mid 20's to low 30's on average.

Thanks for replies it sounds like i want a 1.6 then.I had a 320i e30 car and i know that could drink.I want an estate that will do around 35mpg on a run like my transit. If only the 1.6 will return this then that is what i will look for.

I had a 318i saloon for a while,it was years ago but doing the same jobs as I mentioned and that was pretty good on fuel, sounds to me you need a nice 318i Touring.

As above - a 318 Touring would be your best bet pal
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

I run a 318 touring as a daily to and from work. I find it to be pretty good on fuel even if you give it a bit of heavy right foot some times.

your solution is an LPG converted 325i touring... all the fun of 6 pot power but at 50p/l

Red one in my sig. is one of these, which I've had for well over a decade.
Returns 26 MPG on petrol, and about 21 on LPG, which is the equivalent of about 42 MPG at petrol prices.

so really the ideal answer is an m30 3.5 litre engine swap to run on lpg?

Wife uses one every day - not in an E30 (yet), though.

My iS touring will give 35mpg all day long. 325i touring on LPG would be the ultimate for price, grin factor and noise without lots of faffing about though.
Not in E30s any more :(

My 320i Touring regularly gave 25mpg commuting (8.5mls each way on mixed roads) and 30mpg on a decent run. It regularly got revved beyond 6k under accelleration.
The 2.7 is fractionally less commuting and fractionally more on a run.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

That would make an awesome Touring, true. My m20b25 Touring gets terrible MPG but I drive like a madman at all times (at my gran's funeral my sister shouted at me for tailgating the hearse). Still only costs me about £40 a week though, so I'm happy.

If you're worried about the cost though I like the 318iS Touring idea, that would be sweet. I mean, what's the point of owning a BMW if you can't hang the rear end out a little?

I'm getting 21 around town (London) but if I'm doing some stuff involving longer runs I'll get 26/27mpg out of my 320i Touring.

I've seen 11mpg in total for a tank of petrol after I decided to see what I'd get if I thrashed it everywhere in central London.....! Pretty good to be honest considering how I drove her....
