Nooo..impure thoughts about other cars :-(
Moderator: martauto
Aaargh....petrol is Ԛ£1 a litre up here in the wilds of the Highlands and my loverly 2.5 touring is costing a bomb to run on short runs. I'm thinking of getting an Audi or Merc Diesel just for the economy. I don't know what to do..I love my Touring to bits. Should I just keep her and stop thinking economy and sense ? Help !!!

diesels never work out cheaper to run, i had one and cost more than a 325i to run, and they break easy and cost the earth to fix
and if unleaded is Ԛ£1 a litre diesel must be arround Ԛ£1.30!

we should be protesting, i know the cost of fuel does rise, but still we are paying so much of the cost in just tax.
and a diesel can work out cheaper to run, its all about calculations though and if you prefer to spend the money on more fuel in the e30(non recoverable cost) or putting some of that cash towards a modernish diesel which is a recoverable cost in the most part.
or you could do what i would do and keep the touring for fun, and run a pug 205 diesel which can be bought for about Ԛ£200 use something like that for all your long journeys. assuming you can get it insured cheap.
