so the grit that goes down on british roads causes corrosion. corrosion causes cars to be scrapped. scrapped cars are replaced by new purchases, therefore more new cars are sold. so am i cynical and it's all a coincidence and the government and local councils put road user safety first and no scientist ever came up with a non-corrosive ice inhibitor for tarmac or is it just a con to support the car industry - the big cheeses scratching each others backs while taking from our pockets?
i know which i think it is...
do manufacturers sponsor road gritting?

Yeah, but did you think maybe they pay them NOT to grit, so that people crash on icey roads, write-off their cars and have to buy new ones?

What do they use in other countries when cold weather spreads across the land? If their stuff is non corrosive then i'll buy into the CONSPiRACY theory

Wil, that's why I love having a sh1tter sometimes, just mow past it flat out and shut your eyes!
Good thing is, you know when the gritters come out, it's drifting weather!

Yeah i agree with that! Altho im not a concourse car keeper, even i washed my car the day after the gritter incident. And at the relevatives house as soon as we arrived i even got a bucket of water and tipped it over the front just to get the grit dust off, much to everyones bemusement

You can of course take action against the council if grit coming off a lorry causes damage to your car.
My mate had his mint (and I mean absolutely mint, 20k miles) M reg car, which had just had a full re-spray on the front end to get rid of stone chips, get a load of grit splashed onto it by a passing by grit-lorry.
Fortunately, he managed to chase the lorry, stop him and had a verbal, took down his details and fired off a nice letter to the council. They paid for the 2nd re-spray job

bet he ended up paying for it in a raised council tax....
Surely thats insane, wouldn't the sand stay around after the ice/snow has gone, leaving an equally "slippery" surface. Sand will rust your car as well it contains lots of salt...you can use sand - they do in some US states..
