Yeah, let's get it on. We can all share horror stories of being extorted by BMW Australia for spare parts

I get along great with the Hobart Autohaus Service Manager - he is a old E21 nut and is very helpful. It is the parts prices that get me all crapped off. The guys on this site are probably sick of my whinging about it!!!!!e30downunder wrote:tell me about it they turn thier noses up at you if you have any pre 2000 thats why i love going in thier covered in grease and dirt from head to toe
I like to think it makes my restoration all the more satisfying when I secure cheap parts from overseas, not to mention all the boxes that arrive in the mail - like Christmas every few weeks

Great to hear. yes some assistnace on getting parts and sevices down here would be good. I have had fun paying for parts here in Perth. $600.00 for Ht leads!!!!! Eh. No thanks. Found top gun ones for $116. Some links on the net would have helped, as it took me a while to find out who made HT leads for the e30 323i.

I can fully recommend Pelican Parts (www.pelicanparts.com) in the US. Good prices, good range, easy site to use (linked to realoem) and fast delivery. I will be buying most of my parts there and probably a few from sellers on this site (although, unfortunately Cotsworld BMW won't send stuff to Australia???)

I'm sure you could strike up an arrangement with a zoner who would forward stuff from Cotswold to you, though?poolnoodle wrote:I can fully recommend Pelican Parts (www.pelicanparts.com) in the US. I would offer but, as a Kiwi, I would have to forfeit my passport if I helped an Aussie out - you know how it is
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I am in melbourne.
bmaparts.com is also a great site to look for parts overseas. Some parts are cheaper including shipping to australia. email patrick@bmaparts.com with your part numbers. It normally takes 6 days for parts to arrive. I wish aussie dollars will go back up soon !!!!
Cheers..

I have done this for some parts I couldn't get from US (mainly Euro specific stuff) but it just makes it a little more of a hassle and seems unecessary. I would have thought it was just as easy for them to put the part in a box and send it here as anywhere else'm sure you could strike up an arrangement with a zoner who would forward stuff from Cotswold to you, though?

Hi, another Aussie E30 owner here. 1985 Hartge H23. Also have a 1995 540iLE (Australian version M540i).
I also find bmaparts to be excellent. And agree with poolnoodle, Hobart Autohaus provides excellent service but BMW Australia makes it very difficult for them to compete on price.
Cheers
David

You are spot on there David. I have known Lionel ever since I bought my first E21 in 1991. He is always very helpful and interested in my car even though it isn't a $100K new one. I have also got to know Matt pretty well and have bought some parts off him (www.bmwreck.com).Hobart Autohaus provides excellent service but BMW Australia makes it very difficult for them to compete on price.
How is the Hartge going?
I hope to have my car back on the road in a week or two so I can drive it Autocraft for the Eibach/Bilstein treatment

The Hartge is back on the road. I am currently trying to fit 6 branch extractors but am having the difficulty of fitting them in - especially given the fact I have an E36 rack fitted for better steering.
I suspect, at least for the moment, I will be going back to the standard E30 rack. And I will have to source one as I threw the old one when I last moved house
Don't want to swap do you? If you dont have an improved steering rack and no immediate plans for extractors, I can supply a complete kit for an easy changeover in return for your E30 bits?
Cheers

I've found a few parts here at reasonable prices, they are in Vic.
