Any ideas-Throttle bodies are one idea ( is it possible to put a 325 inlet manifold on it?)and so is the 325i exhaust manifold but any other ideas??[/b]

I really don't think you can get it to 180 mate
not without forced induction

You'd struggle to get that from a 325i with bolt-ons.
I wonder if you can do a 327i conversion and insure it as a 320, if insurance is the factor....

Note that the standard power output for the 2.0 M20 is 129bhp, not the 150bhp you get from the later M50 engines (I'm guessing you took the power to be 150bhp?) that are found in E36s.

You probably could get 180 but you'd need the head porting, a shrick 288/288 cam, a 6branch manifold, higher compression, a blueprinted and balanced bottom end, a standalone fuelling system and probbably individual throttle bodies. So it'll cost sh1t loads.

It is possible to get that sort of power from a 2litre, infact even more is possible, but.......you'd need to get hold of a S14 4 cylinder lump
The 320is had 192bhp as std, thats a S14 lump also......
For the money I'd say the 2.7 bottom end would give most power for your money
and it's a pretty easy conversion to do

It would be extremely difficult to extract another 50bhp from the 2.0 engine.
Youd be much better off just changing to a 2.5 engine which is a reliable 160bhp +.
You can spend money on that and reach 210+ bhp instead.

whats the point of pissing around. i was going to sugest an eta bottom end, and a bit of porting, cam etc, but you said you dont want to swap engines.
the only thing worth doing on the 2litre(apart from binning it), is to do the 2.5 throttle body conversion. cheap and easy mod. anything else is just pissing in the wind.

Well, if you can get 200bhp from a Triumph 2.0 inline six engine, you must be able to do it with a BMW jobbie!
The beemer's a far superior design with 7 main bearings as opposed to 4 and of course overhead cam valve actuation, plus it's a cross flow design rather than inlet over exhaust.

Head work, induction system changes (i.e. tripple Webers in this case) Enlarged valves, mega hairy cam, exhaust system, lightening and balancing.
The last bit's quite important as one way to more power is more revs.

Just a thought:
If you want your 2.0 litre car to be quicker, just strip all the superfluous shite out of it. MUCH cheaper than searching for more power, and just as effective!
