there are some real helmets who drive BMW's though, notably of the E46 & E90 variety or whatever is up for serving from carcraft at 5 years @ 35%.
I had a loon not long back came charging up behind me in an E90, sat on my arse very close for a while, i was in the valver and moved aside at about 90 thinking it could have been a 330 or something, he wheezed past me only to discover it was a 316 pov wagon and I had clearly taken away all of his momentum he had built up over the last mile, so he got some tailgating action despite trying to escape like a scared rabbit before being despatched to the noise of valvetrain clatter

audi a3 drivers are by far the worst

as for alfas and fiats

hate to say it but I have a 16v Fiat coupe and it has been a very reliable car ....no real problems and no rust ...I use it as winter transport only ...(the cab hibernates till April)..a good motorway cruiser and quite economical ...but I do prefer rear wheel drive the coupe is a bit twitchy on the twisties.. the beemer is much more predictable

I used to work with a guy who told me BMW owners were idiots. I explained time and time again. It's not our fault we are just better than everyone else.
I think he thought I was being serious...
Seriously, who cares what other people think of our over engineered German pig iron cars.

Slagging is fun, but I own both. There's very few E30s faster than a Fiat Coupe turbo. 20V has 220bhp out of the box and weighs about the same as an E30. Mine is a 16V (integrale engine close as damnit) and at 190bhp it will leave an E30 325 for dead. Don't talk to me about "I'd lose it in the twisties" because you won't.Alex wrote:to be honest i will have to agree with that, newer cars dont seem to rust as much

E30 is RWD fun, doesn't have torque steer, is easy to work on DIY without losing all the skin on your hands and I love it. But don't race a Fiat coupe, most of the drivers hate BMWs with a passion and love the fact that most people think they're slow-assed Alfa GTVs.

Sadly a lot of people do hate BMW drivers. Its probably that air of superiority we give off as we look down on lesser marques

Its usually mondeos and vectras that drive up my arse on the motorway, often while i'm innocently overtaking. I find people in exec mobiles drive more maturely (generally!).
I usually respond by decelerating a bit and delaying pulling over for a few more seconds after finishing my overtake.
After slowly wafting over to the inside lane I look right to see a fat white shirted man making a rude hand gesture. Upset, I drop a cog and unleash the overwhelming power of the m20b25 as he tries and fails to angrily floor it past in top gear in his forgettable diesel hatchback.
Then I brake violently down to 70 as we approach a gatso, tw*t in vectra doesn't notice it and continues to press on.
Flash.. flash.
(That actually happened)

Audi drivers are the new "bmw" Drivers
when i was in the audi dealership with my dad last year the bloke said we want to be the new BMW and out sell them, well they done it in terms of rep mobiles and company cars my dad did that change from bmw to audi bad move in my opinion his 730i was far better
look on the bright side it gives BMWs a luxury status again i suppose

The lease car companies flood the market with certain cars, as the dealers want more of their vehicles
out there to help with resale values/popularity etc.
Last year i could have had an A6 tdi with sat nav for £199 a month....
year before a colleague had a CLK , and i think they only paid £189 a month for that....

Maybe there was a brief period in the last few years when this was the case. But BMW are stealing the corporate market back with Efficient dynamics and some clever marketing of it. Their CO2 emissions figures are unrivalled in this sector, not to mention the fuel economy. These are priorities for company car drivers. And yet they offer the best performance. No brainer really. And I work for Audi!Alex wrote:Audi drivers are the new "bmw" Drivers

I don't see the E30 as a typical BMW. When I think BMW driver I think about the posh knobs in Seven series, rich w**kers in X5s, twentysomething hotshot players in Z4s. (I don't know any of those kinds of people. The people I know with Sevens, X5s, and Z4s are just ordinary nice people.) The E30, as an image, is driven by sensible 45 year old women with medium sized dogs and crow's feet, or tall goons in expensive jeans who prefer caning the fury out of the machine to just carpark diffin. They're not accurate stereotypes either, but the point is that they're not BMW stereotypes. The E30, the 2002, and the M1 seem to avoid the curse of their badge. I think.

Real stigma around BMW ownership in Australia - rich wankers only apparently. I try to ignore it and the fact my E30 is worth about AUS$3000!!!

I followed a Red 325 E30 Touring in Bewdley for a couple of miles after he cut me up by doing a right turn out of a side road onto the A456. This junction is well signed as "No Right Turn". (it involves going about 100yds to a roundabout and was done due to the number of accidents caused by turning right across the flow of traffic). He turned on and off main roads about a dozen times without one signal and I'm pretty sure he doesn't know where his mirrors are. I did take his No to put up on here but I've lost it although I do see it fairly often and will name and shame him in future.

There is good and bad drivers of all marques.
Seriously think about the people you see hogging the middle lane, not indicating at junctions,on the phone while driving, driving too fast through town centres...never seen a BMW driver doing any of those...usually in the right hand lane
