Was sat here messing about on the net, when i noticed it was wet outside, so decided to head for the car and go out for a 'spin' (literally  )

Bearing in mind this was the first time id ever driven my 316i (or any RWD car for that matter) in the wet, so i was cautious, yet intreaged (sp) to see what sidewaysness was like first hand :D

First couple of efforts i was being too cautious, and wasnt giving it enough, so the next oppertunity was a small roundabout... into 2nd, rolled round, then planked it, back end was waaaay out, i managed to controll it, and went round another couple of times.

Next time, was anopther roundabout, 2nd gear, perfectly round the roundabout, arse out, feeling good :D.
Then went into a supermarket car park, done a few donuts, generally messed around for a bit, having a good laugh :D

Feeling pretty confident by this point   i decided to try it on a corner rather than a roundabout....

Cruised up to the corner in 4th, decided to drop to 2nd gear.... then floored it, arse was everywhere, lost controll mounted the o/s kerb, shot across the road, hit the n/s kerb, and came to a stop on the wrong side of the road  :? :( jumped out, checked for obvious signs of damage, and surprisingly.. there was nothing wrong! (too look at anyway) no dented wheel, kerbing, was very lucky by the looks of it, not looking forward to checking it out properly in the morning though :(

Anyway, to sum it up, what mental fun rwd cars are! :D :D
But very very uncontrollable in the wet :(

I'll be more careful next time (providing my car isnt fucked after this time) :(

it's alright mate, if it helps you feel better, I went up a kurb in mine day after i got it, the panel under the steering wheel had a habit of falling off, and it fell off so I was trying to move it and took my eyes off the road for a split second and I mounted the curb, I think i fucked my front wheel bearing. a kerbed wheel but nothing else thankfully! phew.
as for sideways.. I can get it out in the dry but it takes a bit of concentration and is er, tricky cause you aint got that much power but it's doable. in the wet jesus christ i crapped myself the otherday been hammering down so thought I'll just power out of this junction a little harder than usual just to get a bit of oversteer, oops I was completely broadside in the road was funny once i had corrected it with my comedy sized se wheel!

hmmm they do bite, without a rear roll bar is even worse.

Large area in the wet is my advice, my 318i bit me once ended up bashing a tree which guided me onto a tree stump, all on christmas day too

I agree with Simon, you just need a wide open space in the wet so nothing to hit.

I am always cautionary when playing about in the wet, don't like doing it on public roads even when nobody about as there is still stuff to hit/ risk of over correcting a slide and planting it up a kerb on the wrong side.

Reason why this fella prob ended up on the kerb etc was simply from carrying too much speed into the bend, so too much momentum and I guess the front end washed wide as well as the rear going. Secret is slow speed build up so just the back goes when you give it some beans.

Every day's a school day!

Industrial estates are the best that's where i always go. The one i go up to is only 5 minutes away from my house and it's got loads of mini roundabouts. :o

Practice, practice, practice.....it's all you need :D

I find there is a "point of no return" when it comes to hanging the arse out round corners/rdbts etc... slow in, low gear, over steer then power...... my car will load up and then break away nicley, the wet halfs the grip so take care for sure......

Have spun only a few times, but moslty in the 318i, the suspension on the 325 is much much better and makes the whole drifting experiance that much more safer.......LSD would be nice too, but I like doing things the hard way!!

Have to agree on the safety side tho, quiet roads and open spaces are by far the best for arseing around and you can really push your car and learn how it reacts to the input you give it.

Just one tip tho....make sure the surface is flat and smooth cause rough surfaces will eat tires very quickly....

:D
