Moderator: martauto
Guys
Just went to view an e30 I saw on piston heads see link below, the car is has a hole not a small one but a huge hole in the floor plan behind the drivers seat, and the area under the driver footwell is also in a bad state.
Just thought warn anybody who was interested.
p.s. car has NO MOT it expired in sept 2007, and no tax that expired in Nov 2007.

Wow, does look nice, but these E30's hide alot of nastyness.
Looks a tidy car from the pics and the M635CSi in the background kinda shows interest in BMW's in general.
Shame that!

To be fair, if thats the only rust, it's not bad value. They are not expensive places to have repaired and if the rest of the body is rust free (inner+outer arches, scuttle, sills, sunroof etc) and straight it is not bad value for money.

if you know what your doing you can replace the driver side floor.oakey wrote:To be fair, if thats the only rust, it's not bad value. The only ther place there was rust was under the passenger rear sill.
When we asked him to put it in Sport mode on the auto he started too talk about something else and never did drive in sport!, so possible probs there too.
Does look so nice in the pics , it's a real shame it's not as it is advertised.

If as you say these were the only two places of rust then these are relatively easy to repair and you would certainly not need to replace a whole floor pan.deepb123 wrote:if you know what your doing you can replace the driver side floor.oakey wrote:To be fair, if thats the only rust, it's not bad value. People are being to quick to jump on it and say its a dog especialy when they haven't seen it in person.
You have and only found two areas with rust. This doesn't make it a dog.

It's not about the rust you can see.....

On behalf of my grandad! Ha! Deepb123, how old was the guy when you went to have a look? Did he look young enough to have a good chance of having a grandad who could/would actually drive one?? Bet you it was a bloke who if he had a grandad, he'd be far too old to really even think about owning one of these! How old was the guy selling (roughly)?

Uni is killing the project.

Should offer the guy what its actually worth... see what he says! May be desparate to sell and all the extra goodies could sum up some money!fuzzy wrote:so 2.5K is a reasonable price for a car with no T+T for over a year and large rust holes in the floor? id expect it a lot cheaper than that .
If magpie can make 1200 off a mineral blue 4 pot, think about what could be made off that!

Stop generalising, i,m a grandfather four times over. Already have an ITG filter on my 325i cab, and will be spending a good part of the Christmas break, fitting a stainless 6 branch and a quickshift gear stick.

I would only pay £1500 max for tech2 sport with no T&T depending on condition of the rest of the car.fuzzy wrote:so 2.5K is a reasonable price for a car with no T+T for over a year and large rust holes in the floor? id expect it a lot cheaper than that .
Basicly the value of it broken up for parts.
Its a reasonable price if the rest is mint. Spend a few bob repairing the rust properly and you will end up with a car worth possibly over £4k.fuzzy wrote:so 2.5K is a reasonable price for a car with no T+T for over a year and large rust holes in the floor? id expect it a lot cheaper than that .

What if it was as tidy as yours but with a couple of holes in the floor-pan?bss325i wrote:I would only pay £1500 max for tech2 sport with no T&T depending on condition of the rest of the car.fuzzy wrote:so 2.5K is a reasonable price for a car with no T+T for over a year and large rust holes in the floor? id expect it a lot cheaper than that .

Not nessesarily. A leaking door seal or damage from jacking up in the wrong place could cause this and be isolated to this area only.Simon13 wrote:if there's holes in the floor there will be holes else where on the shell, you can almost garantee it
E30's can rust in isolated areas without being total teabags.
Not true!oakey wrote:True.Simon13 wrote:if there's holes in the floor there will be holes else where on the shell, you can almost garantee it
For that price you can't expect perfection or a bargain when buying a tech 2! It will have some issues im afraid. Rare that you find a mint car for that money! Just because a car has rust it dosn't mean the owner hasn't looked after it these cars are getting old and we don't live in southern California!

but if you were looking after a car you wouldnt let a big hole form in the floor, youd sort it out before it got to that stage which leads me to think maybe it hasnt been looked after all that well?

i must admit that i find it hard to believe the car pictured is an absolute dog and other than the exhaust and filter it seems unmolested.
another point to make is that this is an e30 specific enthusiast forum and all of the rust spots popular or unusual are well documented and most rust areas with the exception of the bulkhead can be inspected with minimal fuss, in fact if you take the 10mm spanner out of the toolkit you can even remove the glove box to better view the bulkhead. if you go to view a 20 year old car and dont expect or know where to find rust then more fool you.
as for whether or not its his grandads, who knows! but people have told bigger lies to sell worse cars for a lot more money

No longer self employed but still available for welding duties.
Maybe but not nessesarily so.fuzzy wrote:but if you were looking after a car you wouldnt let a big hole form in the floor, youd sort it out before it got to that stage which leads me to think maybe it hasnt been looked after all that well?
Its all speculation to be honest.
...and from any water leaks or damage.leigh wrote:Different cars rust in different places depending on the lifestyle! And location!
