when will e30s receive the status old fords have, such as mark 1/2 escorts??people are still going out and spending thousands on a 2door escort that needs serious amounts of welding , when you can buy a really nice e30 for 2grand tax and tested and it has 5gears and electronic ignition.

12/05/2012 at exactly 12:34pm, but only if it's a bit drizzly, any amount of sunshine will result in the event being postponed by 24 hours.

I think the reason they aren't fetching the same prices as old Fords is because there are still plenty about. Sure they have a hell of a following, but owning an E30 is easier than owning a Mk.1 Escort.

You can't compare mk2 and mk1 escorts to e30s, the fords are 1000x times rarer and 20 years older almost.
By the time e30s become sort after like cars such as the old escorts, fuel will have ran out!!

i remember having a mk2 escort as my first car in the early 90's, cost me £235 iirc with tax but no mot for a 1.6 ghia and they were all over the roads in council estates in them days. thats about todays rates for similar e30's so maybe in 20 years time....?

When all the fords are died out, crashed and dumped!
Hold onto a sport, alpina, ASC, hartge or even M3 and one day they'll be sort after... IMO good E30 beemers recieve a similar amount of respect as a car, but the Fords definately appeal more to the racer types. Its the type of owners who go for fast fords and spend thousands on them doing them up and then thousands keeping them running that will spend thousands buying fooked ones.
There was a series 1 in jersey up for sale about a month back nearly. Reasonable car, just needed a bit of work and a good look over the engine. The guy had 2 of them and the stuff (well most of it) that needed to fix it up. Was a nice white RS 1800 iicr. needed a new key though as "apparently" they lost it!! £150. Was gonna take it, but no key and nowhere to keep it
A few weeks later a nice facelift 325i with a high comp engine with 62k on the clock pops up... bought that!

well ive had a 16 sport mk 2 escort a real minter about 7 years ago and i dont think theres any comparison even tho they are fetching good money i wouldnt swap for my 325,trouble is cars nowadays have no character/soul,i bought a e46 318i for about 5 months and then sold it as it was boring to drive compared to my e30!
i know what you mean... but it was an E46 318i. They weigh like 1.5/1.6 tonnes!
E30s are much lighter and older cars are more of an experience to drive. I never find driving my E30 mundane in anyway!

I don't, it would have been useless to me back then.
Not in E30s any more
ive built a few 2dr mk11's with sierra 2ltr pinto's and all the stuff to go with it,,,i have a bda build manual still somewhere,,my bible back then,,,i regretted selling the ones i built,so i bought a 2dr 16 ghia black with all the work done[well i swapped it for a cortina mk5 ghia],,,,got bored again and sold it,,then it was fwd for about 10 yrs then got an e30
,,i think these are much better to drive and would much rather have my IS than any escort

probably never, because ford fanboys are even worse than e30 ones.
how people can be so fond of, and drive up prices of such boringly average vehicles i have no idea.
they might be simple, rwd and bring back memories, but theyre also piles of shite unless you change virtually everything on them. people who spend tens of thousands on old escorts obviously have too much money and spend it on reliving hazy memories from the good old days.

yep i agree i done mine back in the day,,when parts were freely available all over the place,,fxck me on my last eccy
build i got some rs clocks and a glove box for a fiver
,,,gold dust now...driving them is compared to being in a washing machine on fast spin,,,i had 2" lowering rear blocks and 2.8i capri front legs and brakes,,,,back then it was
must have stuff,,,i'm more refined now and like a few luxury's with my car,and comfort.

How has this turned into a whats best debate? Old fords or E30s, what with it being an e30 forum i wonder which one might win? If we gonna have this debate then id rather have a mk3 capri running cosworth power over any E30 all day long. And mk1 and mk2 escorts are beautiful, and have more character than any E30 if you ask me.
i just struggle to understand how old escorts have 'character' ? they were cheap, average, mass produced transport, nothing special, no soul or passion (much like every ford ever made)
btw, i'm not saying e30s have more or less character, and neither am i directly comparing them with the scrotes.

E30s seem to be the most liked BMWs, a lot of people who I talk to about BMWs tend to agree that everything passed the E30 in terms of styling is boring. It's got an iconic status in its own right already, and certainly has the following to make it a true classic in years to come.

I think they are pretty highly rated here (in Australia) and more so every time one more dies. Got a bit of a following in the early nineties when M3s competed in the Touring Car Competition (now V8 Supercars) and had some success against cars with twice the cylinders and cc or 4WD turbos.
Fair to say there aren't nearly as many downunder (especially cabs, iS, alpina, etc)

I love e30s. Had coupes, sallons and tourings and loved them all. Also nobody would be on here if they didnt like them. If you compair any standard e30 to any standard old ford in my view the bm wins hands down. On the other hand if your talking about a rally prepaired mk1 or 2 escort or even one running a firebreathing pinto on 45s then sign me up. I defos agree that old fords drive like they were put together by chimps in standard form.
