Hey guys, how you all doing?

Just found this forum and reckon you could answer a few questions I got about E30 ownership?

My current ride is an 02 plate 1.8T New Beetle [with 225bhp], but as I've had it 3 years Im getting a little board [plus with more and more stone-chips, little scratches etc its picking up its braking my heart that I cant keep it 100% perfect no-more]. And I seriously considering getting an E30 convertible to replace it.

My main question to you, the people who got the cars, is; would it be a wise idea to give up my modern car for something that could be over 15 years old? I would need it use it daily, about 40 miles to work and back. And would the E30 be reliable during the cold winter etc etc?

I love the convertibles shape and reckon they so much cooler then todays BMW's. Though am I gonna struggle to find a mint condition one fast? I'd love to get one to enjoy some of the summer we got left! - I reckon my budget gonna be about 7 - 8k depending on how much I can sell my bug for?

Has anyone heard of WLN Automotive, in Lancashire? I emailed the guy the other day and he seems to know the deal?

I'd want a bigger engined example. Is the 325 the fastest? Though I know the convertible aint all about speed, it would be good to have the same sort of performance as my Beetle [0-60 in low 7's, maybe even just below?]

e30's are very good as daily drivers. i love mine to bits. go for a 325, motorsport if possible but they are very rare and hard to find. WLN get alot of lovely examples and they do know there stuff but can be on expensive side, but there cars are top notch.

it is becoming harder and harder to find good example e30's now. but they are very good build cars, gotta look out for rust as its the e30 kryptonite.

i'm sure someone else will be along to help!

Cheers guys. WLN had a Motorsport convertible for sale a while ago [been looking at their website], and its exactly what I'd want - Mecau blue looks so sweet - though being over 10k it was just over my budget.

Hope I can find one!

hi buglife there are are a couple of motorsports on the autotrader for sale form circa 6k upwards, u need to check the chasiss no and ensure it is a 798 option which will confirm it is motorspoort.....only 250 made in the uk , first lot were macu blue and sebring grey and series 2 i.e. the later ones were martius blue and calpyso red, wheels are BBS with nogro silver centres and came with buibble leather, the later ones come with lotus white pimpster leather

the alpina C2 2.7 convertible is probably the rarest of them all and very few ever come up for sale. There is a motorsport down south with a Hartge H6 conversion good for 190bhp.

cant beat the smooth 6 cylinder noise and most are very reliable if serviced/oil change etc

do it...I just gave up my 2001 Golf GTI 1.8T for my old E30, and dont regret it at all... Although I hated the golf for the whole year I had it!!!! you lose a fortune on modern cars I lost 3.5k on the golf in a year on purchese price alone!!!!

I dont think you can lose any value on an E30 as long as you look after it.
