pirreli p-zero nero are one of the best tyres ive had on a e30 they where realy good in the dry and realy realy good in the wet even when the tread was through to the canvas they still had grip. now im using kuhmo's they are ok too in the dry and the wet
Micheldever has always been very competitive for me. I can only echo everyone else's sentiments on the P6000's ok in the dry, lethal in the wet. Bridgestone RE720's were excellent but you can't get them anymore
Not sure if they make the 050 or 050A's in the right size.
In the past I have tried and liked the Bridgestone Potenza Re-720s and the Goodyear Eagle FIs . Now it has become apparent that the Pirelli P6000 are a backward step I have to choose between Eagle F1s or something else. Wet grip is my biggest requirement from a tyre.
Anyway thanks for all the help and any other info appreciated.
By the way Drowningman what Michelins do you mean in your post about premium ?
Cheers Paul

Check if you can get Bridgestone 050A's in the right size, the wet grip on those is superb on my E46
Eagle F1's are the tits. But make sure you get the GSD3's, not 2's!!
As for the cheapest....black circle( http://www.blackcircles.com/ ) Are THE cheapest going. So cheap they have put alot of small tyre traders out of business

Mitchelins are definitely the bollocks, the last pair of tyres I bought for my E30 were Uniroyal sports, I would have had Toyo's but couldnt wait as there was steel hanging out of the ones fitted, they are great in the pissing rain, but grip in the dry is some of the worst ive had, great if all you want to do is "drift" everywhere but the back wheels are spinning so much it gets embarrassing
I had a set of Uniroyals on my 15" BBS wheels and thought they were a very good tyre. I not sure what I got on my 17" I got from Garath but they are bloody awsome tyres

they are crap i've had them in the past. The new style F1 tyre only starts in 17's which is a real shame as they are supposed to be a step up from the GSD3's
proxies are great i love them

Which Michelin's,Pilot Sport? I've not tried them before.DanThe wrote:Mitchelins are definitely the bollocks, the last pair of tyres I bought for my E30 were Uniroyal sports, I would have had Toyo's but couldnt wait as there was steel hanging out of the ones fitted, they are great in the pissing rain, but grip in the dry is some of the worst ive had, great if all you want to do is "drift" everywhere but the back wheels are spinning so much it gets embarrassing
I need 205/60/R15's for the Sportster, seems there's not much out there any more that size which isn't really good. Used to be a decent selection, these days all the sports tyres are for 17" wheels! A bit too big and heavy really. Even in 16 there's not that much. Although you can get GSD3's but the question is how long.Drowningman wrote:Dont think u can get pilot sports for stock e30bbs be like a e300a or something, pilot sports are all n1 n2 porsche fitment * bmw fitment etc i think 16 inch and upwards i'm not sure tho..
There really isnt a great deal for 205 55 15 and its all well over priced
king david tyres will do 2 x conti premium contact 3 for £108 which is brilliant
But u cant get any "desinger" tread patterns , not even f1's i dont think
Mostly what's available are long distance touring tyres, harder compound which lasts longer but don't grip as well. I need sticky tyres to keep the power from the 2.8 M20 in check. But not Yoko A048 which are a little extreme for road use, and really not good in the wet being near slicks.

right on the money!bodger wrote:toyo proxes all the way, once they wear in a bit the grip is amazing, nothing comes close for the price, £50 per tyre in 205/50/15 from camskill
205 50 15 toyos will be what goes on mine once I have worn these shocking naankangs out. The 50 profile looks a lot better, although on a standard ride height iS it might look a touch painful.
r888's actually grip extremely well in the damp/wet due to being a soft compound tyre. When it becomes standing water you really are in trouble though.

Yeah I looked at the R888's as well but they don't do them the size I need + standing water is an issue (as with the A048's)Jon_Bmw wrote:205 50 15 toyos will be what goes on mine once I have worn these shocking naankangs out. EDIT: ha ha its a sign I've got 888 posts
I've been recommended the toyo proxes but I'm not convinced. I was going to have a chat with the folks at Micheldever see what they recommend these days (they recommended me the RE720's many years ago and those were excellent)
I can second that. I've had nothing other than Michelin ever since I 've owned the car. They're not cheap, but you pays for what you get.Drowningman wrote:all branded tyres suitable for bmw fitment should have a star on the sidewall and sticker,
If your going premium Michelin is the only tire.
Forget yoko, toyo and all the jap crap
King david tyres tyre wholesaler in south wales/ devon are cheap.
Micheldever, bonds, stapletons e tyres are all rip off merchants!
I bought 2 205 55 15 continentals the other day for 108 quid for for premium contact 3's ( be 300 down ats) keeping it german they look nice on bbs too!!!!!!

i just brought some polished motorsport wheels for my e36 m3 evo and when i went to look at them they have these p6000's on all brand new, so i was like nice! but jesus i put them on my car and they are deadly! total ditch finders and they will be coming off very soon. michelin pilot sports are a very very good tyre as well as the new goodyear that took over the f1.
