On the weekend I rather unhappily reveresed over a small island which i couldn´t see out the back of the car, thus removing my exhaust pipe system.

I haven´t really been brave enough to look at it properly, but a third is missing from the ´drive´home (which was very noisy at 12 a night) and upsetting, plus i don´t know enough about the cars systems to really tell what´s going on.

What i do know is that I will need a whole new system, and here comes the part i need help with.

Should I replace the system with a similiar one as the original spec, or go for something more exotic. I don´t want a louded system, in fact preferable as quiet as poss. but wouldn´t mind a style direction if anyone has some to add.

She´s a lachs silver ´88 cabriolet 325i as per my sig. pic. and she´s not very happy at the moment )like her owner who only recently purchased her.

Prices on these systems would also be helpful.

Thanks all in advance.

Ebay my friend! Never go to a company like Nationwide.....they watch you walk in, pull your panties down and somewhere along the line they've lost their watch and you can hear a ticking in your semi colon.

The for sale section on here lists countless E30's being fragged so you should get one for a 1/4 of that price.
There is even a full scorpion system (albeit maybe a bit too loud for your liking) for sale this morning.

Have butchers.

Not a difficult job at all. Just remember to buy a new exhaust manifold to downpipe gasket (I reckon yours will be a 2 part system) and the olives that seal the 2 sections together. You may also want to buy new rear box mounting staps as these rot and are probably now scrap due to your mishap.

I've never bothered fitting exhausts myself - far easier if you can get the car up on a 4 post lift which not many of us have.

Better to buy the exhaust yourself and then give your local ATS monkey a few beer tokens to fit it while the boss isn't looking - done this on plenty of cars in the past and never had a problem
