Wish me luck...

HAs anyone tried these spray-on dyes?

My CAB had a lovely Dark blue leather interior beofre some muppet went and died it indigo-blue which looks filth!...not to mention he didnt even bother to take the rear seats off which is like what?..2 nuts? 8O

The front seats...ok but not removing the rear is just plain wrong! IMO

ANYWAY...........................

Rear seats are out...the process is:

cleaning the leather with a solution called 'Ultra Clean' solvent free stuff

rubbing down any rough patches with a fine grade sand paper

then using a solvent based sorta primer which de-greases and open the pores of the leather..

Spray the seats with a couple of light coats of Dye which is back to the Navy/Dark-Blue..let it dry, repeat on any missed patches

Leave for 24-48Hrs then condition it with some Bees-Wax based conditioner...

Unless i take the front seats out..i got to mask everything off inside as to not spray it with a nice blue colour..lol

BUT..im hoping it should look very nice after...like the saying goes though..''its all in the prep work''... and a Ԛ£100 spendout :)

friend of my parents used to use shoe polish on his leather.
had to leave it a day or two tho for it to go off properly.
seemed to work well from what i can remember.

I got the after care too..which like you said is a sorta shoe polish in the same colour...il be applying that once a year to bring the colour back up once its been dyed..

but yea,you gota leave it a while to penetrate nicely then a touch of conditioner to seal it..

The interior gets the sun a bit so i thought this was a good buy too..

Just finishing mine off, back seats now look like new it deffo works 'if prepped properly'.
Mine was applied with a brush and took around 4 coats of dye to get an even finish.

TBH...i couldnt find any brush on stuff that i wanted or needed in the colour, plus i gota better deal with the spray as i brought a package..

spray is obviously easier but not looking forward to getting the side of the front seats etc and masking everything off.

might be easier to remove the seats?

i think i might just do that now..

Are the front seats fixed with 4 bolts? 2 on each runner?

probably alot easier and would get a better result me thinks

Carl

P.S.. just had a thought and would like yer opinions guys..

i got an M-tech2 second hand wheel on the way to me..as im here doing the seats and was going to re dye the whell black..how would the outher ring of the wheel look Navy Blue with the inner section still black?

Ghey or Not? test a small section would be favourite

Get all the interior out and split the seat into 3 parts, lower upper and seat back. It's much easier then.
Keep your wheel black, then again i like the standard look.

As an ex shoe retailer i do know that there is a solution (obtained from a 'shoe repair wholesaler' try yellow pages) that completely removes the colouring from leather.. you then buy a black dye to recolour it..it then needs conditioning ,,,it also needs to be done in a VERY well ventilated area
