MPG ON 325

Hi I'm looking to get a BMW E30 (325i) convertible, love the cars! I'm just wondering, how many MPG does it do or how many miles out of £20 does it give?? Also, are these reliable as daily cars or would I need a second car? Any advise is very much appreciated! Thanks

not sure about a convertible but you should get about 80ish miles from £20 depending on how you drive

If you are patient and have the right attitude towards e30's then they are very reliable as for example if you constantly give it abuse everywhere and expect a minor service every 6k is ok then you might encounter some problems not that I'm saying this is you, but with money spent the right way, i.e. on purchasing good quality parts and maintaining it well then it should last you

you may want a second car unless fuel consumption isn't very important for you#

its pretty good for long journeys, but i got 270 miles out of a tank (£65) , doing little journey on and off the throttle lol so not so good for that. i can do 75 at 30 mpg easy. the engine is sweet you wont have any problems with it (unless a boy racer has had hold of it) mines done 150,000 miles and i'm shore it will do another 50,000 before i have to do anything. make sure you dont get an automatic cause you'll cry evertime you look at the gauge.

i get around 75 miles on £20 if serviced right will perform well as a daily driver the m20 is very reliable.
using a cab in the winter is not good at all unless you have a garage it's not nice de-frosting the inside of the windows

Ah ok, thanks for this guys. I currently have a Nissan 200sx S14a and really looking for an e30 convertible but so hard to find a decent one for under 3k...Anyone know any for sale?

I have covered a gnats cock under 300 miles in the last two days and have used 3/4 of a tank of petrol.

I decided to measure my fuel consumption for my journey down to Southampton this weekend, I drive a 320i with a 325i engine fitted.

Filled my tank up to the brim at the first garage then set the mileometer counter. The drive was 163 miles, this consisted of around 100 miles motorway/dual-carrigeway @ 65-80mph the rest was mostly single carrigeway@ 50-70 mph with a few miles of town driving. On returning I topped my tank up to the click at the same garage, this came to £25.

Using a bit of math with unleaded being £1.19 Litre/£5.95 Gallon I worked out my average fuel consumption to be 38.8 mpg, I couldn't belive this figure at first especially as I've still got the 320i diff on the car with a 4:1 ratio, and while I did have a light right foot on this occasion I certainly wasn't driving like a granny.

Looks like buying the Miller MAF system paid off

My 325i convertable does about 28 mpg in mixed driving. But I do go quite fast.

I use it all year round. You have to have a good hood and (surprisingly expensive) rubber seals around the edges or it will leak. I've never got ice on the inside! The biggest pain in the winter is that you don't have a heated rear window and mine doesn't have heated wing mirrors so you can't see what is behind you. There is a small fan, just below the rear window which blows air from the cabin onto the window. It does work but slowly.

I have a hard top which I stick on in winter. This does have a heated rear window and is suffieciently water tight for me to have used a drive through car wash without incident (I was in a hurry). Its big though - you need 2 people to get it on and off, somewhere to put it when its not on the car and you can't put the roof down on unexpected crisp winter's days. They come up on Ebay from time to time going for £500-800 or so.

26 round town 34-6 on the motorway (85+) average is 200M for £40 mainly town driving and i use it every day april-september...but its not how many miles but how much fun!

lol mpg on a 325??? depends on how heavy your ol right foot is! i get 240 - 250 miles to a tank(mine is a 320... sort of..) thats with a 4.1 final drive... the 3.64 lsd will be fitted friday or next week, it will be ready when i come back from my honeymoon... im getting married saturday!

Constantly get between 22.5 and 24.5 out of my auto 325 cab. Have had 30+mpg on a long clear run but that figure is a rare occurance.

As for getting a goodun under 3k, you need to be careful. These have risen in price and nice solid original cars where the owners have no eBay account will demand a good price. I'd say look at a few sub 3k and then look at some 3.5k and above. See the difference. Loads of nice recent reciepts will save you money later on and cars that have had little or no recent paintwork but may need a bit, are a safer bet than cars with fresh paint especially around the rear arch area. Unless of course the work was photographed. Disregard colour and spec. Buy the best you can find. You can easily spec it up later (OBC/Leather/LSD etc.). Thats just my advice though.

thats crap mpg. my 07 plate twin cab mitsubishi warrior pick-up is averaging 36mpg since i got it 2 weeks ago and that must weigh 2 tons. the free diesel is the clincher

Of course there will be a difference between mpg between a 325i and a 325i convertible. For one thing the car is much heavier. I never fill my car with £20, so wouldn't know how far I travel.

The 2.5 is my daily drive and I must average around 25mpg - was thinking of getting a 4 pot same colour/age etc to sit beside it for the small commutes

I'll see 120 miles to £20 but I prefer the 20 litre fill ups as you can compare prices and miles.

The last 20 litres cost just over £23 and lasted 130 miles.

Seems the old turbo'd beast is quite a eco-car after all!




Then there's the other side too it, I managed 13 miles to £20 while tuning 8 to 10psi and I only saw 65% duty cycle so there's more fuel to give!
