Does anyone have any tips on how to remove it properly or is it a case of being careful and hoping for the best?

I am currently breaking a 2dr 316i and want to take off the dechrome trim to sell.I have tried removing a set before and ended up twisting them to the point where they looked like they wouldnt go back on another car,so i ended up binning it!
Does anyone have any tips on how to remove it properly or is it a case of being careful and hoping for the best?

I haven't tried doing it myself but I did want to get a dechrome set so that I could change Delphin's look now and again! But I think I'll forget that now it doesn't sound too easy to change.
