Does any one have any advice on protecting mtech1 type foglights from stone chips?. I was considering trying to get some of that venture shield clear protector film I see advertised in various car mags.

Replacing broken foglights is costing me a fortune!!

I was thinking the same thing as i have cracked 3 in the last 12 months, I Don't think there is much else that can be done. It is a real pain in the ass when you notice its happened and you have to go and find a replacement.

Drive further back from the car in front? After a foglight incedent with a slow fox I keep a better lookout for uninsured animals now....

Probably the best advice, especially on rural roads.

having said that, my last cracked windscreen was from a quarry truck driving the other way!

you can get protective film and also plastic covers (on eBay i'd guess) the driving further back from the car in front does help but as shalmaneser says, you can get stones flying from the other side of the road.

I got so sick of replacing fogs I just took them off and put blanks in.
Fogs are a waste of space anyway. If your dipped headlights are set-up correctly, they're all you need - even in fog.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

thats what i would do put blanking caps in they are much cheaper than fog lights to replace and less annoying when they do break you cant use fog lights without getting a fine these days anyway due to local law enforcment

Somewhere in the archives there's a link to a site (probably in the US?) that sells plastic replacement lenses.

I made perspex lenses for my E46, but I think that solution would look too modern on the E30.

I'm going to try the perspex with my old E30 fog lights when I change them

I'm sure theres a thread somewhere, Beardymat uses plastic fog light covers, could be in his resto thread not sure though.

Think this is what he was talking about
