My mate bought a l reg 525i sport today,i took him to fetch it at about 7 pm it was in wittness near liverpool.
This was the first real long drive my motorsport has had and what a drive it was the only thing that concerns me was the temp gauge reading a tad over half way i was doing a steady 80 all the way alittle more on the way back as he was trying to race me [childish i know] but what chance have i got.
Is this normal temp readings.

Cheers
Ryan

Check the temp sensor on the cooling system, brass plug on the thermostat I think, well near the cold start injector, there are two, blue is for ecu and brass to for dash, I bet it's fooked. Sorted mine out.

Does the engine seem hot when you open the bonnet? Mine also sits over halfway normally and I am sure something is wrong as the engine bay seems quite hot. All the hoses are the same temp (hot:)) Will 'get round to it' at some point probably...

Where TF is that then? I didn't even know there was one.

Another "paranoid over temp gauge reading thread".
As long as it's clear of both the blue and red zones it is absolutely fine. The black part of the scale is expanded and only covers a few degrees.
A CHANGE in it's normal habits may be worth investigating though.

If your on about the thermo time switch it's not on motronic cars.

The cold start injector is on the inlet manifold surely..

Motronic cars don't have a cold start injector, either. The DME increases the duty cycle of the normal injectors.

I thought that the blue connection was the cold start injector, but like you say, now I've had another look, it's actually the second temp sensor..... must get a new one then as I havent changed that one before!!

Mark.

My last post didn't make alot of sense, of course if it's motronic it doesn't have a thermo time switch or a cold start injector.
