Hi,

I have a 1991 E30 318i convertible in neon blue. I have spent many hours on the internet trying to find out more info on the car.

I think it could be a design or designer edition?? Where these a limited edition, if so how many were made??

I've had the car for 4 years and it has just failed the MOT with rusty sills and poor brakes. It has an electric roof which I spent £1600 two years ago getting it repaired at BMW main dealer (they had it 3 weeks!!) coz it would only go down half way, it recently has started doing the same thing and I haven't got the cash to get it sorted again. Thought about converting to manual just so it works but seems a waste when it could be something really simple to fix.

I am now thinking about selling the car to someone who has the time and money to put it right and really enjoy it like i have as I just don't have the time and money nowadays.

Any ideas what it could be worth??

Many thanks to anyone who can offer me any help or advice.

in the condition you describe its not worth a lot ...... it is a 318 design convertable (motorsport edition)it was one of 200 made in blue ..there were 200 also in neon green ...it was the end of line car where they threw a few extras at it ie 15" bbs unique interior in blue/green with matching striping m tech steering wheel and gear knob some had the option of a electric roof which is very unreliable and often breaks the motors are aroun £800 the pair to replace ...it is much easier to return it to manual ..when tidy they are a nice looking e30 and can go for as much as £3.5k but can sometimes be found for £1500 with tax and mot if the sills need replacing its not the end of the world but on a covertable this is where it relies on the main strength and rigidity.. the worrying point if it has gone here then were else has rusted that you cant see ...brakes are not difficult to fix but as per most e30 cars if its the t peice above the petrol tank or in that area that has rusted then its a exhaust off and drop the petrol tank out to fix it ...as for what its worth it all comes down to what anyone will pay and if its not much consider breaking it for parts

I have one of those, its a 1993 (K). which I bought the wife. Its a nice car but does have its draw backs, I would go the manual route on the roof.

Mine has the manual roof. Full 13 Button OBC and Fogs and the small boot spoiler. with Negaro painted wheels, full cream leather with Piping and rear headrests.

Many thanks for your help guys.

It has given me some food for thought, still don't have the heart to sell it so I think I might investigate converting the roof to manual and see what the repairs will cost and decide from there.

There was 200 made in total - Blue and green...so rare, but not a great value currently...I am breaking one at present...maybe can make 2=1 ;-) goodluck....by the way the roof is not hard to fix now...normally circa £100-200
