Just thought I'd post a quick update in the general section for you all on the progress of the e30zone sponsored racer!

In short...three class wins and a second from 4 races so far this year placing me in joint third position in the championship. The car is performing well following an engine re-build during the winter and huge thanks go to the guys on the zone who have helped out with providing parts for the rebuild. The zone BB throttle body is fitted to the racer as is the zone chip and the car will soon be going back to Thor Racing for another "direct to hub" dyno run!

The racing is in the long standing and popular Kumho BMW Championship which I am sure most of you know already, but for those who don't, details are at www.bmwrdc.com and on my website at www.zonemotorsport.co.uk

I'll also take the opportunity to let you know that if you or anyone you know of (company boss, rich uncle with own business etc!) would like to consider sponsoring the racer for even a single race, it starts from only Ԛ£200 which gets the company main sponsor title for the meeting (name in the race programme etc), prominent company logo on the bonnet of the car, and tickets to the meeting just for starters, so is well worth considering! Details are on my website.

Not this year I'm afraid! We've got Mallory, Thruxton, Donington, Snetterton and Oulton Park left now. I'm gutted we aren't even doing Brands Hatch this year

It'd be good to see a few more zoners at the races though but I'll apologise in advance if I can't stop to chat for a while... when you haven't got a team of mechanics doing everything for you, it makes for a very hectic day! Andy335i will be able to vouch for that! (sorry mate.. I always seem to be in a mad rush when you come round!)

Rockingham was plagued with problems for Dom, but thankfully the car is running really well now as proved at Silverstone where it passed me like I was standing still!!

Certainly is Ian! It's the head I got from you which is in the car at the moment. It has been ported and polished with a 3 angle valve and seat cut before being fitted with the 288/288 cam and schrick springs. All the effort now needs to be on the chasis of the car, getting it even lighter than it already is!!

I'm glad he's got it sorted now, must be so fustrating having problems like that.

Those triple carbs have got to be a good for an extra 20bhp ?

Does Dom run in the same class as you ?

I'm not sure what the car produces now, but it's enough to put him well into class C whereas me and my low life injection system is in class D. I'm trying to think of the best way to show these carb boys what injection can really do!!! MAF conversion is looking likely as a starter for ten anyway!

Why not get the new baby Emerald ECU rather than Unichip/MAF and then if you can afford it later you could upgrade to some TB's ?

Just up grading to MAF/Emerald won't release mass's of power though,i'm guessing a 2.7 bottom end with TB's is the ultimate but lots of $$$ !

What chip are you using at the mo ?

That looks interesting Andy although there's nothing on their site as yet. I thin kI might give them a call, as a fully mappable setup is a basic requirement ongoing I think.

...unfortunately 2.7's are not allowed! The chip I'm using is a one off that Ant did for me to match the characteristics of racing and the 288/288 cam.

I think you will be running 95% spot on with Ants tweaked chip,i'd only recomend the Emerald rather than a MAF conversion or if you are planing to use TB's.

It's a lot of dosh for trying to squeze the last few horses out of your motor.

Also bear in mind it costs 200 plus vat per mapping day,it took about 5 hours to map mine.

On the plus side they are easy enough to wire up your self DIY.

I thought that Stuart Laws E30 was a 2.7 ? Is he in the same class as Dom ?

There's lots of debate about possible 2.7s being run in the championship, but they aren't allowed. Dom is in class C now as his power to weight now that he is running on carbs wihth a lot of lightening of the chasis has upped his power to weight. What makes you think that Stuart is running a 2.7?

If you can make it to any of the remaining events I would recommend it.
The e30's certainly hold their own in the Kumho races which is good to see. Paul (M3GTR) does really well and can quite often only see the e46's in his mirror!!

If you can make Pembery, Snetterton and Oulton you get a double whammy of e30's as the Milltek Sport guys are racing there too. It is fair to say of both championships that the enjoyment is not just at the front of the field. You get many smaller battles going on throughout the pack.

And so far there has always been so thrills and spills:
