Hey guys, I was having a debate with some mates about which is more economic the M40 or the M42 and we need a second opinion to clear up a small issue.

Anyone know how many miles you can get out of an M40 and an M42 with a full tank of fuel?

don'tknow about full tank as I never filled my tank

but to £10 of fuel in my 316i I used to get about 40-50 miles driving like a granny and spirited (does that even exist with a 4pot?) - 30-40 miles

on my 318i I used to get about 40 miles to a tenner with mix driving

figures are low for both cars, which I assume is either because the way I drive or they were both sh4gged

my bird has got a 318ti compact with the later m44 engine in it i think and i filled the tank on that (£60) and we got 400miles out of it but that was driving seriously slow ie 60 to 70mph on the motorway

Driving steady, mixed town and trunk roads I get 160 miles for 20 litres which I calculate as 36 mpg.

Longer journeys at road legal speed on motorways pushes it up to nearly 40 mpg.

Keeping it on the peak and scaring the wildlife down the lanes, about 20 mpg, ... well I've got to spend my pocket money on something winkeye

Currently avaeraging about 350 miles to a tank (£55 ish) in an iS. A good mix of London traffic and M25, not granny driving and not thrashing it (much!). Lot's of revs on 1st and 2nd and i'd be luck to get half of that.

Not got any figures or anything, but I reckon my iS is more enconomical (judging by the dubious swing needle thingy)

easy 40mpg with the M42 vs. pushing 35mph with the M40 on M-ways.
Not in E30s any more :(

About 100-120miles to £20 on a 1.6 M40.. That's with a pretty heavy foot.

about 350 to a tank on general driving.

If you drive 400miles at 60mph and 3000rpm thats a full tank in my 'is'

318is : It almost always does 34 mpg no matter how I drive it it seems. This is calculated properly.

Best I have had is 35.8mpg.

I get approximately 34mpg from my is on almost every tank of fuel i put in it - mixture of "fast" and motorway driving.
