Grand tours in your e30s...

Ive just been killing some time on youtube, watched the TG episode where the boys drove to the Millau bridge in the south of France (The Ford GT, Zonda and F430)

Anyway it got me thinking...how cool would that be...sun shining, roof down, lovely scenery, equally lovely french country towns and finally brilliant roads.

Has anybody done any "epic" tours in their cars?

no but that would be awesome! my mates in army and based in germany we were all going to go over and go round the ring still not happend yet though!

A few of us have just done the zone roam, 1200 miles (and some of the southerners travelled alot more) of the finest roads the west coast and highlands of Scotland have to offer

if your going to the ring make sure you car does not sound like its just crashed out of halfords... my mates next door neighbour has a 355 with the paddle shift fitted and a some kind of f1 exhaust...he did a tour over ther two years ago and was removed since they could here the car in belguim lol... sounds amazin though

Never done one on foreign soil - yet.
Done plenty in the UK though. 2 or 3 times a year we go away somewhere for 7-14 days and usually rack-up 1200-1700 miles.
Done Scotland 4 times, Wales twice, Lake District several times, Peak District, East Anglia, treks to folks in Hampshire (600 mile round trip).
Got a mega one planned this year. 10 days in Cornwall. Opposite corner of the country to home - 470 miles door-to-door and then there's the days out on top of that and the calling-in on rellies on the way home. I reckon we're looking at 2000 miles over 14 days on that one.

OK, so people going abroad do more miles.......

My most epic tour so far was York to the centre of France solo to visit my parents. This was in a nice little 318 touring I had before I discovered the zone. A couple of months later I lent the car to my parents for the same trip.It didn't miss a beat either time... I flogged it in the end because the fuel tank filler was starting to leak and the rear bushes came up as an advisory. Someone has since sorted it because its still on the road in York.

This years intended itinerary is the Med coast of France, via the Millau bridge, followed by a detour to the 'ring on the way home!

The furthest I have driven is from Inverness to South London/Surrey in one go.

I did London to Austria in mine last october, think it was about 610 mile's and 15 hours of straight driving, stayed for 5 days then headed back to London, not one thing went wrong with the car, was a smooth drive all the way there and back. Did about 1380 miles on that trip, not bad for a car thats nearly 24 years old!

I tried to do the Mongol Rally but failed miserably. But then again, I was trying to use one of these: Click

These days I can do the 1509km from Warsaw to Dover, and the occasional Scandinavian burst through Denmark and Sweden.

I took the cab for a bit of a spin last summer.
We drove from Copenhagen to my aunts place near Cognac in France. After 6 days there we aimed for Switzerland, going through northern Italy. Up to Locarno for a few days then took it at a nice pace back through Germany.
Did 5500km - all bar 200 with the roof down.

Was a fantastic trip !!

High 5!!! im going from porstmouth to biarritz then across to the MED in july.

Took the 2.7 Touring from France via Portugal and Spain, then on the Trasmediterranea Ferry from Cadiz to Lanzarote. Used the local ferries and visited each of the 7 major Canary islands. The joy of a 2.7 straight 6 pulling up makeshift roads on the sides of volcanoes is a memory that will live forever.

Went a little trip over to Rye in East Sussex a few weeks ago avoiding the motorways as best I could, not an epic tour I know, but the sun was shining all the way there and I stumbled across some beautiful roads.

Unless I'm in a hurry (ie visiting the rellies) I usually try to avoid motorways. We keep the satnav set on "Shortest Distance" and "Less Motorways".

I was using a friend of mine and a map to try and find my way there. Resulted in a very interesting drive.

4pots get tedious on motorways anyway, best get in on the twisties where it really shines

Been down through France to Nice/Cannes and did the Route Napoleon fron Grenoble to Cannes several times over a 3 month period while I was working down there

Heading to Munich later this year for Oktoberfest, via a few laps of "the ring", and then down to Austria, followed by Switzerland,Lichtenstein,French alps,Italian alps,Col de Torini,along the coast for a bit then up to Millau, then Andorra and then into Spain then heading up to San Sebastian then back acros the Pyrennes into France and finally a quick blast along the <ulsanne straight before arriving back in Calais for the ferry home

Mulsanne's always full of traffic! The return leg down through Indianapolis is usually deserted, and you can let rip down there!
