people will disagree with me on this for sure but i keep going on about my nankangs! they're unreal in the wet. i know they're considered cheapo's but they really are good. if you've got money to spare though there's bound to be better out there

Nankangs on my old rover, tbf for cheap tyres they had very good grip! I was very pleasantly surprised and i ragged that little 1.4 lol.
Thanks for the replies , seems that wet grip is not exclusive to the most expensive brands . I had a set of Toyo proxes before and I thought they were ok but just wondered if there was something better. Maybe I should have asked what are the worst tyres for wet grip as there seem to be so many good ones.

my r888's are awesome in the wet. not so much when its pissing down but have far better "wet" grip than any other road tyres i have used before and ive tried most of the top road tyres from pirelli, continental, goodyear, michelin, toyo, bridgestone and none of them close. i do live in jersey though wich has a 40mph speed limit wich a rarely break in the wet. so you probably wouldn't want them if you do motorway driving. all i know is avoid gisalved tyres like the plague they came on the car when i bought it were brandnew and where shite. where amazing for drifting though smoked like a bitch and let go like they were made of butter.

My experience of nankangs in the wet is totally the opposite.
OK in the dry, but first sign of any moisture, and suddenly all roads become a skidpan.
Always found toyo and goodyear eagles excellent in the wet, bonus is that they perform brilliant in the dry too.

I've found Bridgestone RE030s to be excellent in the wet and in the dry.

im running nangkangs as well had a puncture put on a avon spare loads of tread yesterday first bend coming out of a roundabout at about 40 mph suddenly the back end slips out .....never happened on nangkangs i have never been a skinflint on tyres but the nangkangs were on a breaker and were too new to bin ....and i would consider buying them again over dearer branded tyres
Not sure if you can get them as 15's but I recently put some Bridgestone 050A (make sure is A) and was very impressed with the wet grip - much better than the 050's I have the back (no A) which led to some interesting moments the first time I drove in the wet! Dry grip of either tyre is excellent.
I have only had Nankangs on 1 car (VW scirocco) and they were on the back, It was more prone to oversteer than the E30, good fun aslong as you werent in a hurry.
Another tyre to avoid is the Avon ZV1, stuck like chewing gum to a thick carpet in the dry, deadly in the wet

i used to run Rainsports aswell.... definitly rate them! great in the wet, great in the dry!
what ever you do dont run infinity's they are made out of the same stuff as plastic dustbins and grip just as well.

Nankangs are ditch finders, end of!
I put some Uniroyal Rainsports on the back of the 325 when I had it and the difference was staggering. To the point where it was difficult to get the back to step out in the wet and dry grip was also superb.

i have to agree about the Uniroyal rainsports, if not them then the next best i had were Goodyear eagle F1

to be fair i judge my nankangs on the fact that my iS never slides but thats probably more down to not having any grunt! haha.E30BeemerLad wrote:Nankangs are ditch finders, end of!

honestly though i've had some heart in mouth moments on the M6 at speed and thought it would aquaplane and for a light car on wide tyres put it down to their good tread pattern that they could clear the water so quickly and not shoot me off the road! like i said though i'm sure there are better out there i just think for £40 a tyre they're much better than they let on.

Think I will give the Dunlop sp 9000's or the Uniroyal rainsports a go, on the advice on here. Nangangs seemed to be ok for some and bad for others and if I was looking for budget I may give them a go but in this case I am not.
I have had toyo proxes and goodyear eagle F1s in the past and liked them both with the F1s being better but the proxes good.
Will see which are the best avaliable deal and which tread pattern I like best the Dunlop or Uniroyals.
Thanks again Paul
