its an e36. i dont think e46 is available in 323, not sure. s reg would make it an e36 though. if it is e36 it has M52 2.5 litre engine. 170bhp.

e36 would be m50 2.5 at 192 bhp

I think S reg was the changeover point, there are a few S registered E46s about just like there are a few H reg E36s

The E46 323i does exist, I'm pretty sure it's got a de-tuned 2.5 M50 with 170bhp, the same as the E36 323i

If it's an S reg E46 it won't be the facelift one....

I'm pretty sure I'm right about the engine, a friend of my dad's got an E46 323i and that's what he told me.

I'm sure you'll find out for certain with a quick look around the 'net anyway...
