when an idiot driver rear ended me, (with a transit van) while i was stopped, the insurance company offered me Ԛ£900 for my honda engined rover 216, and i said i wouldnt take it, they said that was what they were worth, so i said i have been to a main rover dealer, autotrader and private ads and they all want Ԛ£1450-1495.
Blokey said no way would they be able to go that high, so i asked for his head of departments details so i could send proof... so he gave them me, then 5 mins later came back on the fone and offered Ԛ£1500.. sweet! (especially as i only paid Ԛ£800 as i bought it off me dad!)
Have a look around autotrader, print off a couple of ads, look in the paper, and ring a bm specialist, and see what they want for similar cars. THen tell insurers what its worth.
Sorry for long post!
A 4x4 hit my car today :(

even if its written off its only going to be Cat "D"
Cat D you dont need to vic check.
Written off = cheque for Ԛ£1300 from insurance & buy your car back for peanuts.
just a though.

hi Michele,
Well they've got back to me a couple of days ago and said that the written off price for my car according to their book is about Ԛ£750!!
I said no way would i take that little for it, so he looked at the pics that the BMW body shop had sent him and said that price is quite undervalued for the condition of the car, as he could clearly see how mint it was.
He said the only way to get a better payout for it is to get examples of the same model for sale off the net and autotrader etc, and also a written note from a bm garage with a valuation.
Ive got a few ads together with the price ranges around Ԛ£1500, i know this is a lot for a 318 but these are genuine ads.
Im going to Westcounty BM tomorow, an independant place in Liskard and he has done alot of work on my car so is gona value it for me (around the Ԛ£1500 mark
)
I'll e-mail all the stuff i've gathered tomorow and see qhat the insurance guy says.

Ԛ£750 is a bit shy of the mark! i must say though when my 406 got written off directline gave me the full market value for a 100,000 mile car,mine had done 276,000 miles when it got hit!
