i've hit 140 a few times on the speedo once i had it at 145 and kept it there for a few minutes............the car was very stable on standard bbs wheels
190 can be done with a serious power plant

The only E30 remotely capable of 190mph is a 318is on 15" BBS wheels and stock suspension.

E30 M3 touring cars were regularly clocked on some circuits at more than 185mph.
Around 400bhp and the correct gearing with some minor bodywork tweeks will see 190mph.
A de restricted E39 M5 will do and indicated 195 "relatively" easily.

How fast did the DTM cars go in a straight line. Albeit running a lot of downforce? And only with a max of 360BHP or so.
190 is not easy, definetly possible with a lot of money. More than most people will be happy to spend. And really there more to life than going 190 in a car from the 80s
a sierra cosworth has broken the 200mph barrier. rod tarry(madrod) i think is the owner with around 700bhp iirc and they arent the sleekest of cars either.

Sierra Cossies are well slippery compared to an E30...as somoene has pointed out, they were one of the first cars to be designed from an aerodynamics stand point.
Although they did have a habit of taking off during development testing, that's why they had those black plastic trim pieces added either side of the rear windscreen.

They're there to create a clean seperation around the rear screen. The airflow would remain attached to the body of the car all the way up to the area around the rear screen, then would become detached and turbulent. Turbulent air is at a different pressure and creates lift. That's all well and good, they expect it to happen, but on the Sierra the point at which it sepeated was unstable, so the car would have an different aerodynamic balance at different times. The problem was particulalry bad during, as you say, crosswinds.
Putting the trim there made sure the air is always seperated in the same place, and the airflow was much more predictable.

Excellent, so we would be able to fly in our E30's. Now I'm really interested. This is the way of the future.
Let's do it.

The Lowtec converted ACS e30 M3's were apparently good for 180mph, I would think that if someone put their mind to it they would see 190mph, I wouldn't want to try it though.

whats stopping you, its got to be gearing right? with your power it should p1ss over 140. i need to get a gps thing on my iS and see what its really doing, on my old one (the one with the unknown engine mods) it p1ssed up to the limiter in 5th and showed over 140 (wish i'd gps'd it before i sold it though). my current (slow) one goes over 130 on the clock but i dont believe it for a second

ive geared mine for acceleration rather than top end.more useable on an everyday basis.this same engine when fitted in my old light weight, stripped, wedge shaped celica and with 263bhp hit 162 (gps) using an lsd from a rwd supra.

top speed record for a Mk2 Escort.
His top speed was 178.9mph.
thats a flat front escort too

pushing 500+ bhp
so 190 is perfectly poss in a e30
now who is gonna go for it?

Oh lord not this again well guys other people have done it in the past before on different cars from the 80's and early 90's so I am sure it is poss in an e30 surely a lot of money would have to be spent to achieve such speeds but if you got enough you will get there..

what do you reckon yours will do when you've got 370 brake? if you changed the diff obviously. 160+?

I can say i have achieved 190mph in an E30 (off public roads) and still pulling hard @629hp but backed off as i could feel too much lift
The car started feeling light at approx 150+.
These speeds were calculated by GPS also, no speedo crap...
My question is now earodynamic is an e30?

The only proof is, i can only say, i was no longer comfortable in the normal reclined position my seat is normally in and i had to sit properly upright with both hands on the wheel.
If there are any track days ill bring it down. not sure ill do much apart from drift and wheel spin though!. LOL
New engine will be build with approx 850hp

Yes i went there a few times to get some parts but he was a bit on the expensive side. I havent bought second hand E30 parts in years now. I built most of mine new from BMW's direct
