I believe the car may have come in via ireland in 02 when it came into the country, REY Anglesey reg I believe?
It was owned by a respectable Estate Agent in Peterborough before I got it don't ya know
Pete, I know deep down you comprehend the sheer engineering feat the Soarer is, far more accomplished car than other ilk of the same genre, particularly the Bavarian offerings clammering to stay out of the local landfill

With electrical engineering reminiscent of that bird that fell into the machine in Superman 3.

I think the only reasons you should build an M3 Replica (in my humble opinion) are these:
a) You've got a touring (I have) and want it to look similar to that red one (I do). There is no doubt in my mind, thats a damn fine looking touring....
or...
b) You prefer the silky feeling of a Six rather than the M3 engine - I do for everyday driving, and I'm not an all out speed freak. Therefore, i would rather build my own E30 M3 Rep with a BMW Six Cylinder engine - even the engine in my E30 325i - because for me, it's a better everyday driving car and i could never really get the full potential out of the amazingly sharp E30 M3.
So, and i'm ready for the stick, I would rather OWN a really really well done 325i E30 M3 Replica (especially a touring....mmmmm).
Off you go then, call me a f***** liar.

Tourer, yes.
6 pot, no.
Until you live with the M3, it's speculative to comment on it. You don't have to rag it mate!!!

I must admit, and this is why i made a point of it being my humble opinion, i have been in only one E30 M3 and i have no idea whether it was a good one. I like smooth engines, and the M3 that i went out in, felt as if it didnt produce as much low down (2-3.5k) torque as my 325. It would, obviously, whoop my 325i but thats not the point im trying to make. Driving the 6 pot feels easy and lazy (below 3.5k) and the M3 didnt.
Therefore, i stand by what i say in terms what i would rather OWN, as a 'normal' driver, not like many of you on here who seem to value flat out performance over everyday ease of use. The M3 also had 16's i think rather than my 15's, and whether this makes a big difference or not, the ride wasn't too pleasant around my potholed town.

Fair enough. May as well stay with what you like! Seems a lot of money to spend making your car look different without actually improving it.G524 wrote:I must admit, and this is why i made a point of it being my humble opinion, i have been in only one E30 M3 and i have no idea whether it was a good one. Money better spent on preserving what you have or making it quicker, stop faster or corner better.

That's a very leading question. I want it struck from the record!! Pah!!!!
Of course not!! I don't need a seven seater!!! However I would marvel at the wonderfultelemtry that allows a seven seater to kick arse in Rally and touring car.

All this talk about council or not council is really all bullshit, at the end of the day its just people striving for a bit of individuality and some achieve it better than others, ive been driving fairly standard E30s since i passed my test and this one i decided to personalise, so i built it the way i did myself, with my own hands and imagination, for me !
Im a great believer in each to their own opinion, ive heard all sorts about my car but for me what counts is I like it and there is only one this shape in the world MINE, you dont get much more individual than that

Mass produced plastic tat which detracts from the cars value, detracts from the performance is not indervijuwel!!! Hardly personal.riklusby wrote:All this talk about council or not council is really all bullshit, at the end of the day its just people striving for a bit of individuality and some achieve it better than others, ive been driving fairly standard E30s since i passed my test and this one i decided to personalise, so i built it the way i did myself, with my own hands and imagination, for me !

Fair enough if you want to adorn your car with filler and lumps of moulded crap, as you've said, it's your decision!!
If you decide to flaunt your 'creation' you have to accept the criticism from those who call your car BARRY.

exactly, opinions should be honest opinions and people that have thin skins and are easily offended should not post up pics of their cars on the internet. i know this better than most with my hybrid but i can take itblatantarrogance wrote:Fair enough if you want to adorn your car with filler and lumps of moulded crap, as you've said, it's your decision!!riklusby wrote:All this talk about council or not council is really all bullshit, at the end of the day its just people striving for a bit of individuality and some achieve it better than others, ive been driving fairly standard E30s since i passed my test and this one i decided to personalise, so i built it the way i did myself, with my own hands and imagination, for me !

Only just read this thread...
One of the reason some people modify their cars is to make them look different to everyone elses, if they were all the same then their would be no point in having meets etc as there would be no reason to look at other cars as they would all be the same.
I like the M3 replica touring as its different and looks good, also this guy has changed everything, basically all the parts off a M3 on to his touring, which basically should handle like a M3, but dont know about performance as he doesnt say if he's changed the engine(not that i can see anyway).
I am in the process of doing a similar project myself but not yet started, but the reason i am doing this is because at the end of the day its a 4 door, and its more convenient than a 2 door. Ive had a few 2 doors, but i personally prefer the 4 door as you have a little bit more space.
But when doing this project, i will be thinking about Handling, Brakes etc...

I will say no more, not wanting to offend the dude who is not on this thread (yet).
RE uprating hardware, I'm mainly offended by styling mods. There are limitations as to what you should do with internals, which I will publish later - but wheels, lights, body, interiors and general styling are the main offenders.
Ratch, you didn't bite at the m42 jibe.... You admitting the m20 is better??
Wheels defo a good mod. Again subject to taste.

M3 has different suspesnion (fundemental geometry changes), steering rack, diff etc. though. Power is only the half of it...less than half of it infact.fuzzy wrote:or just kit out my current touring that already has more power than an m3,but using metal, not fibreglass......MrDazzle wrote:Maybe you should just by an M3 with a rotten shell, and a decent touring shell with a rotted engine...

I suggest\youput na lead on, before you get bitten
After doing my kit in fibreglass i can agree with fuzzy, metal would be best for doing this kind of thing and my next project will be done with it, although getting the tools to do it may take a while. then itll be another Barry Touring
