Before anyone chucks a wobbly - I personally don't like E36's, but any M3 convertible in the summer has my vote

This of course doesn't solve the problem as you'll still have 11k possibly come september, but that's not a bad thing hey?
Dont make me laugh. Dat's about the worst thing you can do. E36 M3 are not worth anything. Type in M3 on the trader and the 1st few pages are all E36's going for silly money before you come to the 1st E30 M3.

Yes you could put into into you property, but sometimes you have to spoil yourself. Like is just full of things you have to do. Sometimes you have to live a little and do something you dont have to do. After all your life is borrowed and could be taken back at any given moment

Best time to sell a rag top in now, esp after a great bank holiday weekend, weather wise.

E36 M3 won't appreciate because newer models are falling in price.

any convertible is worth MORE in spring, and LESS in autumn. No profit to be made in the E36 anyway, as Bootyman said.

Holy crap! as I said before anyone chucks a wobbly.......

There are hundreds or soft top E36 M3's that you can buy now and sell for the same if not more at the tail end of the summer - I didn't mean the horizontal rain months that follow - it's very unlikely you'll lose money.. Come August drive to Germany and sell it on (for more) - drink a few steins and get an easyjet flight back - holiday paid for and a free trip on the autobahns

oh ooops, I did!

When I was a young spunker... I spent £9k on a nice car. Ten years later the car is worth pennies and I'm kicking myself for missing out 10 years on the property ladder. Amazingly, I just came into £10k myself and I'm not spending it on a car. No sir. Its going into bricks and mortar at the first opportunity (and its all in high interest accounts/ISA at the moment).

The simple lesson is that money you spend on cars should be disposable income, and a car is not an asset. Even an M3 isn't going to make as much over 5 years as a house. Sad, but true :( Just look at what an M3 cost in 1988 and ask your parents what you could buy on the housing market for that money, then look at what the same property is going for now. You'll be gobsmacked.
Can't drive a house though.

Mind you, a Volvo is not too far away!
THis is true :)
but if you need a sensible daily driver... get a non turbo diesel Golf mkIII. 500 miles from a 40l tank, cost you about £500 to buy. Parts are peanuts. Keep the E30 for sunny days :)

no wobblies here...

As someone who has owned erm 6 convertibles, and sold 4 or so, I know they are worth more at the start of summer than the tail-end (also called autumn).

German cars such as BMW Ms and Porsche 911s are regularly imported to the UK, as prices are LOWER in Germany, even though the car then for sale in the UK is actually LHD - driving a RHD or even LHD BMW to sell in Germany would lose huge great wodges of cash. :D

Made my decision today.

The cabby flew through it's mot just one advisory on the rear shock top mounts. :D

So i'm going to spend a bit of the cash on the cabby, new rims, brakes, suspension and some engine work (seriously thinking about a couple of turbo's) and the rest is going into a high intrest savings account.

Thats my plan mate, before next summer (yeah right!) I will have some nice BBS rims, willwood big brakes, new interior, a turbo or two (or transplant), H&R 60/40 and ARB's, stainless exhaust, and maybe a respray. Looking at about £8000.

Good Luck!

Actually Daz, no to the first two (that I can keep), I sold the third a couple of years ago when I lost my bottle. Although I've just had a good tidy & clear up in the building I keep parts in, and think I might have found it again :)

And I have a thing about watches!

E36..

So why are al bm's extortionately expensive in germany? All I was proposing is that if you pick up a cheap motor which you can easily sell for the same if not more in a few months free motoring for the summer and you don't put the miles on the E30.. It's only a suggestion!

Not sure about standard e30's but there are very few M3's left in germany now. There used to be a fair bit of money to be made from importing them, as a result all the decent ones are over here now. As a result the prices for a good one in germany have gone way up
